I am in an awful confused state over my JSA

I will give the details below:

a few months ago i received a sum of 24 thousand from an inheritance. I was on jsa at the time and didnt tell the social welfare office because I didnt know if I had to. since then i got very sick and was cut off jsa because I was unfit for work.I have since gotten better and the cash amount has gone below 20 thousand. i went in to the intreo office on wednesday to restart the claim as i had received the final cert from the doctor. The following part is where I am confused. The lady started my claim again but asked for my bank details because in her words 'we lost the statement you gave in 9 weeks ago'. Now i dont know where i stand. i dont want to give in my bank details because they lost my last one and i think its very negligent of them with regards to data protection and i am also afraid i will get into trouble because i didnt let them know i had received the amount over 20 grand. can anyone give me info?

Of the €24,000 you received, only €4,000 would have been assessed as means for JA and that would have been at the rate of €1 per €1,000 per week, i.e., a deduction of €4.00 per week. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/irish_social_welfare_system/means_test_for_social_welfare_payments/means_test_for_jobseekers_allowance.html

When opening or restarting a claim, the applicant is routinely asked to produce an up-to-date bank statement, regardless of whether the SW has 'lost' or 'mislaid' or still has the previously supplied statement. They are entitled to recoup any JA overpayment relating to the time when you had the €4,000 over the allowed €20,000 available to you as means and will point out to you that, on the application for JA and on the notice that your were to be awarded it, it was stated that you were obliged to inform SW of any change in your circumstances.

It was also negligent of you not to inform them of your change in circumstances, so it looks like there's a pair of you in it. Best be up front & honest with them - it's not like you have a lot of choice. From what you say it looks like you were overpaid by about €50.

Do yourself a favour & supply whatever details they require. It's probably better that this has come to light now rather than a few years down the line when you'd owe a lot more than €50. You were ill at the time so probably had more pressing issues to worry about so don't worry too much about it. It can easily be sorted out once you comply.

Wow. A chance to invest €24000 in not being on benefits anymore. Use it wisely! That would pay for a degree. Or a franchise. Or many other things.

Will i get into trouble? An inspector called to the house today to interview my wife but she was out. Is this normal considering she was reviewed/interviewed 4 months ago. She is on disability

I don't know what makes you think that you'll get into trouble if the inspector came to interview your wife. Anyway, that can't be answered without all the facts, so it's best for your wife to wait for another visit for her to find out what it's in connection with - it could be something very simple, so if she hasn't done anything wrong she has nothing to fear.
