Get 1 lt. Of the meal your using. Weigh on kitchen scales. Multiply by 1000.

Keep error small; get a 10l measure and multiply by 100...

You would be better off finding the weight in a cubic meter then measure the tank :)

I put six bags of beef nuts in a 200 litre barrel. 150kgs.
Therefore you will get thirty bags into your IBC. 900kgs.

    Do your sums again. 750kgs.

Nuts have a specific density of .75 so. Would have thought they were denser

730kg of Lakeland Beef into ours last time we filled it..
Might have got another 20/30kg in but that would be it..

You are forgetting the air between the nuts.

If you put one nut in cold water, does it float or sink? If they float, this would suggest a density between 0.75 and 1.00. If they sink, the density is greater than 1.00

How do you plan on getting them out again? Are you cutting off the top?

i did that and it works a treat, just put the support bars back on afterwards as it stops the sides from bowing out when full

I was thinking some sort of door or chute underneath would be handy for filling bags again.

What are the dimensions of the IBC when ya chop the top?

You mean a relative density - relative in this case to water.

yeah. The relative density can only be taken if their being stored in water. Otherwise its useless

The tank's volume is measured in litres, 1L of air is the same volume as 1L of water at 1013mb so it's not useless, it was a means of explaining my point specific density was a term used out of context.

    Mass of water => M=pV
If you can get the density of whatever is going into the IBC you can calc whats going into it.

not 1 person has said a 100litre IBC tank holds over 1100 litres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,081 ✭✭✭td5man

Why not get the full of it of nuts and the weight docket will tell you how much is in it.

    This thread is nuts!

lol. .. sounds like a trick question,

id be doing the fill a 20 ltr dulux bucket, . . .

as that holds 20 ltrs of liquid,

    then weigh it.

    then multiplied by 50

dam it, them buckets are 10ltrs. . ok multiply it by the 100. ..

either way, its your easiest method of finding it out, that or go with experience above.

    A few questions:
1st Do you get the nuts delivered or collect them?
2nd Is it post/bird proof? I'm thinking you could cut out a section and stick a hinge on it.
