    To the best of my knowledge there are 3 55-250 IS lenses.

    The MK I, the mk II and the STM, that more expensive argos lens is labeled as the older mk I but with the price of the STM. Exercise caution with this one.

    yep, you can see the differences in the lens itself - the argos one has 'image stabiliser' written on the barrel where the other has the canon logo.
    it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that pixmania (and argos) both have their prices mixed up. pixmania may have intended to sell the mk 1; and argos may have priced theirs based on the mk II.

    conns have the mk II for €280.

    Thanks all for your input, much appreciated! I actually ended up buying a refurbished/second hand one from Conns for €175, it is the 55-250 II and comes with 6 months guarantee so am confident that it should be good quality! As far as I can see Conns have a great reputation so happy to buy from them!
