got a timing belt put on the car about two weeks ago, and a new fan belt replaced was a squeaking noise coming off it and got it tightened up a week later ,

but yesterday i thought there was a funny noise when starting up, and the idle was quite high at the beginning, anyway i did start it a few times today as the noise was not the normal start up,

then what happens the bloody car wouldnt start, there was a sort of clicking noise and the power would just go off, anyway went with a push and i drived it for ages but when i stopped and turned it off, it would not turn on

    Any clues,

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like your batteries fecked. That clicking is your starter struggling with not enough voltage. Can you check the voltage? Could be bad connections to the starter either.

The power thing sounds like the battery not having enough charge to start the car.

Could be a duff battery, could be that the belt isn't tensioned properly on the alternator pully.

If that's the case starting it a few times may well have run down the battery (possibly even knackered the battery as well).

If you have a battery tester check the battery, or just charge the battery and get it to someone that can check the belts.

Was the auxiliary belt changed with the timing belt? If so, it may not be tensioned properly.

i know my mechanic said it is best not to tighten to much the belts as it can put pressure on your alternator etc

i dont know if the auxiliary belt was changed ?

Battery would be about two years old , i do a lot of driving with the job

    What car/engine?

Most likely the alternator belt is loose seeing as it happened just after getting a belt changed.
It could be the battery or the alternator itself though. Both can be checked with a volt meter

    Toyota Avensis 1.6 petrol,

Would you not notice a Battery draining down or would it just stop?

Turns out its the starter apparently who ever put in the onebefore he did did not put it on right and the teeth were worn so when this one went in it smashed the cove

he had to put in a second hand oneand see why the new starter did this
