Hi all, like the title says, I am going to look at a second hand rolex sea dweller tomorrow, the seller has all the papers etc however as it's a lot of money is there any way to be sure it's not a fake? can the serial number be checked online/over the phone or is there any other dead giveaways?

Where did you see the watch advertised? Have you a link? I would certainly not bring cash or part with any money bar maybe a small deposit on first meeting.
There are such good quality fakes out there (including boxes and papers by the way) that it's a bit of a minefield?
As is always mentioned here buy the seller as much as the watch..
If they are genuine then they should have no problem having it certified or verified by an AD (this can not be done in a few minutes and would need to be left with the AD and is chargeable) Maybe if it was bought in an Irish AD they could verify easier the serial no?
Is the price in the right ballpark? The old adage "if it looks to good to be true" and all that! Best of luck with it.

The only way is bring it to a Rolex dealer and they can open it up, check the serial numbers, if all is matching, can check it if it's not stolen, can check if the bracelet is original, that the crystal is original, and also if it's in decent mechanical condition. All the above in a hour or so.

An independent watchmaker can check a lot but Rolex will not let them know if the watch is stolen, as far as I know.
