When a farmer is breeding his cows does he use the same bull for his herd each year or different bulls? Cheers

We have 2 bulls here. A Lim & Simmental. We can choose which heifers/cows are suited to each. Normally 1 bull is enough on any farm unless the cow number is high.

    It depends!

For herds less than 30/40 one bull will cover the lot.
For bigger herds a second bull is prudent.

Neighbour has 2 bulls and is very handy as he runs two groups. one is the group with female calves and the other is the bull calf group.

Then there is AI and you can use as many different bulls as you like

Have 44 cows here and would mange with one mature bull and change him every 2 or 3 years but the farm is very fragmented so need 2 because of that.

running a blond and a limo here, will probably have a charlaois before the end of the year and the limo moved on. its the first time in years that there will be multiple bulls here. im trying to match the cows better and even sticking ai on some. One bull usually doesnt work on all cows so hopefully i'll be able to guess correctly what cross is going to work best.
