    Hi need some advice please,

Bought a 98 1.6 petrol avensis recently thing is the gearbox is on the way out still driving just with the noise. As car goes faster noise gets louder.
Has NCT until June next year and 1 months tax left.

Should I repair it and sell it or sell it as is or scrap it?

Any advice would be appreciated cheers guys.

It will probably cost in the region of €700 to get the box repaired and you'd be as well to do the clutch as well when the box is out as it should only add about €100 at that stage.

There is a couple of ads on donedeal for rebuilt boxes if you could remove and replace it yourself. Can't find the exact one for your car though.

A gearbox bearing is more than likely the culprit for your noise. A bearing shouldn't be too expensive to buy but fitting it is a big enough job. The gearbox will have to be removed and dismantled to access the bearing/bearings and as the above poster said a clutch kit will probably have to be fitted as well.

If you intend to repair the box stop driving the car because the noisy bearing will eventually fail which will wreck the gearbox.
