Researching TV's - my head is going to explode!

Aggghhh plasma, LCD, LED, Smart, non smart, yada yada.....

I'm looking at a Samsung ps51 f5500. Seems to be about €900 everywhere. Reviews generally seems positive expect for the bright reflective screen and a few others moaning about buzzing. I'm coming from an 8 year old Samsung CRT low profile thingy. I suppose my main concern is reliability and picture quality. My budget is max €1,000 and I'm more interested in a 47"+. The smart and 3d I can live without as i'll probably get a smart Samsung blue ray player if the TV i get doesn't have it. Any advice would be much appreciated and also any good recommendations for good prices. I've tried Argos, Soundstore, Harvey Normans etc

Is that a plasma or LCD? I know plasma is on the way out, but for me, plasma is best. I have a big screen plasma and an LCD and i prefer the plasma but the picture is a bit darker. My LCD shows clouding on darker scenes on the screen and this is a problem with LCD. LED solves this and my LCD is a few years old so i'm not sure if this is still a problem.
Have you thought about a Panasonic plasma?
In terms of a smart TV, i would not be bothered. Go for the picture you want first. The Smart bit can be added on with a smart Blu-ray player or an Apple TV etc.
Same goes for 3D for me - i'd pass on this until you replace your new TV in a few years!
Also, check out last years higher-end models. You should get some value in shops looking to shift old stock and new models are minor upgrade with features you could do without.
I've found Power City good for price but they sometimes don't sell the award winning stuff. Check out Richer Sounds and then get someone down here to match the price.
Test out the sets in the shop - ask them to put it on a normal setting - they tend to have the TV's on a superbright setting which makes everything look good in the shop but you would not have this setting at home.
    Hope this helps!
