    Hi,

A quick question in relation to calming back medical expenses. How will the refund be payed ? Is it in the form of 1 payment or will it be in the form of tax credits spread over the 2014 tax year ?

    Thanks.

I got a cheque in post yesterday for mine - despite having given Revenue my bank details for direct deposit. I'd say you should expect cheque or deposit to account for normal amounts. I think only if its larger amounts and involves nursing home expenses, then tax credits are adjusted.

I've posted this before so maybe someone could highlight it as it keeps coming up.

Any claims for tax credits or reliefs relating to prior tax years, not the active tax year (2013), which result in a refund, are paid to you by Revenue directly either by EFT or cheque.

Any claims relating to the active tax year will result in an amended tax credit cert. If you are still in employment, your employer recalculates your tax for the active tax year which may result in a refund through your wages.
If you are unemployed, it has no affect unless you have also submitted a claim for a refund of tax during a period of unemployment. This may result in a refund of tax paid out directly from Revenue either by EFT or cheque which relates to the active tax year.

    Thanks for that!
