Measuring Room Temperatures

If i was looking to measure room temperatures where is the best place for the sensor to be? I would assume floating in the middle of the room would be the best option but i don't think my wife would agree. If it was mounted on the ceiling could i assume that the actual temperature was some offset of the measured…

Standing Head height if a transitional space.
Seating head height if a sitting room etc..

on the wall furthest point from any draught sources. Doors windows etc.

Room stats in a domestic installation are normally mounted 1.5m above finished floor level, away from direct sunlight and not over a radiator.
