Dublin City's BMX Winter League kicks off tomorrow night Friday 1st November.

Whether you're a novice or an experienced BMX Racer there is a great battle to be with someone in your race group. The club are seeing plenty of interest from Road and MTB cyclists with Lucan Road Cycling club hiring the premises on Tuesday nights so we expect to see a few new racers this week from them.

Registration and track practice starts @ 6.30 with racing commecing at approx 8pm.

Racing for kids from age 4 upwards (even lads in there 40's racing) with hire bikes available.

See the website for more details (www.dcbmx.ie)

    Hi Sean,

I'm afraid the hire bikes we currently have really only suit age 8 upwards , See this link for the exact bike - (www.winstanleysbmx.com/product/52318/Jet_Basis_2013_BMX_Bike). We are lucky enough to have two club members trying to raise funds through a sponsored parachute jump and hope to use the funds raised to buy two or three smaller sized bikes and some new safety equipment along the lines of these http://www.bikestore.ie/bmx-1/junior/cuda.html.

But if you pop up on a wednesday night when we have an open session as long I'm sure one of the half dozen members that use the smallest size bikes like the cuda would give you a spin.

Parachute jump looks like it's going ahead tomorrow so hopefully we will be to have hire bikes for 4/5/6/7 yr olds soon.

    No probs Sean,

38 adrenaline filled racers gone home sweaty and happy. Round one of eight done but anybody whether a member or not can join in the racing at any stage. Open for information tomorrow but the track is booked out of public use for three Kelvin Batey sessions from 10am - 4pm.

Two brand new first timer racers raced in the U6 and U10 boys and went away promising to come back for more.

I'm sure we will continue to see a steady trickle of new faces over the coming winter.

    Mon - Ladies Only Training 7.00 - 9.00
    Tues - Lucan Cycling Club
    Wed - Open Practice 6.30 - 9.00
Thus not open at present - If any group is interested in hiring get in touch.
    Friday - Race night - 6.30 - 9 ish
    Sat open 1-4
    Sun closed

The track opening is manned by club volunteers and we are doing our best to keep the facility open as much as possible and pay the
€40k a year rent. But please keep an eye on our facebook group pages (dcbmx) for confirmed openings.

    Chris

    Hi Geraco,

We're still hangin on in there at the indoor track.

Tonight would be a great chance for anyone to pop down for a visit. We wrapped up the most recent 6 week club league last week and tonight is an "Open Session". a few of the club regulars have gone over to race in the UK this weekend and there will be others taking advantage of the bank holiday and taking a break away so attendance numbers should be in the twentys rather than thirty or forty riders. Be a great casual atmosphere to get introduced to the track and check it all out. Maybe we'll do some time trials to give the BMX'rs a benchmark to keep an eye on their race lap times in preparation for the next National Event in Ratoath on the 11th May.

Hope to see you down there between 6.30 and 9.00. Ask for Keith/Ross/Chris and you'll be looked after.

How does the system work for people wanting a taste test - do you need a CI License, and how much is the bike/gear rental and track fee?

The pricing structure is simple enough

    Non Member prices:

With your own bike - €13

To hire a bike (Choice of 4 BMX's with 20 inch wheels and 2 cruiser BMX's with 24inch wheels on a first come first served basis) and a full face helmet - €15 (About 20 helmets so fit should not be a problem)

Stay as long as you like during the session. The non member prices include a day membership fee which has any licencing issue sorted.

Member prices are a €10 a session with your own bike after joining the club.

Annual membership for anyone born post 2000 is €25 and you need to sort out your licence with CI

Annual membership for anyone born 2000 or later is €27 and includes an annual youth CI licence.

Just a little reminder that Friday night racing is still going on. There's a new team running the facility (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dublin-BMX-Academy/349066555240327. Still lots of old friendly faces. This place really is a great place that comes into it's own over the winter but has struggled to stay open throughout the warmer months. It could really do a with some support so if you fancy a change of bike and want somewhere to start off in or want to blow the cob webs off your BMX check out the FB page and drop up for some practice or racing.

i see this is closed recently. Is there anywhere else for night time bmxing? what are the other options?
Are Lucan and ratoath in the daylight hours the only options for the winter?
