Sony Vaio: in-built mouse jumping erratically

I've a Vaio VPCEH and I'm using Windows 7. Last week I bought a new cable as the old one had broken. It was then that my mouse/cursor began to jump around. I googled and apparently this is caused by the cable box (transformer?) being next to another and emitting a magnetic field of sorts. Anyway, I moved the laptop away from the lead box and the cursor stopped jumping.

Now, however, the mouse is jumping again and all leads are unplugged and it's operating solely on its battery. I've cleaned down the cursor, restarted the laptop but the mouse continues to jump around the screen (with, instead of the standard cursor arrow, a small rectangular box and a small blue two-sided arrow on the top right of it). I've had to write this from my phone.

Would anybody have a solution to this?
