    Hi Guy's,

I would love to build my own PC. I have been contemplating this for a while now. Please find a link to a wish list I have created on amazon.

I am happy with this build idea, but love to hear some feed back on what I have chosen.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/O51OL39KE93M

I already have Monitor, mouse and Keyboard.

Would I find these products cheaper somewhere else?

This PC will be used for very light gaming, video & photo editing and HTPC.

Look forward to hearing your opinions and ideas.

    Thanks in advance.

    BobbyT

Sorry Dude was in the middle of changing thread when you posted. Sorry about that. Convinced myself this morning to go ahead with the build!:D

Any particular reason you went for that motherboard? Can get a cheaper one with many of its features ie the asrock extreme.

Pretty sure you could get that graphics card cheaper I'll have a look in a bit.

The 7850 same model on knomplett.ie is only 159 euro... At current conversion rates you are paying 175 euro.

Why don't you do up your build list on komplett.ie and see if it comes out cheaper.

There's hardwareversand which would be cheaper again. You could have built something much better for the same money. An 8 thread haswell i7 or xeon would be better for video and photo editing. You could get a r9 270x is the same price as that 7850.

You got an overclocking board and cpu but no cpu cooler.

You could have got an overclocking board with the same features (- the wifi) for half that price.

You left out a power supply, also as said above you can get a cheaper motherboard and that same graphics card or atleast its equivalent for cheaper

    Thanks guys for the feedback.

Would you have links to the motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, graphics card yous are talking about?

No reason for choosing that Mobo, just really went on reviews and features. Really want to future proof as much as possible.

As you can tell I am pretty new to PC building. apart from the CPU, graphics card cooler and mentioned above. Are all the other stuff I've chosen ok?
Will they all be compatible? I've never built a PC before.

    Is a CPU cooler necessary?

What power supply would be a enough for my build? How do you judge the amount of power you need for a build?

If you wouldn't minds could you suggest a build that you would do, going on my needs i.e video photo editing , very light gaming and general PC tasks.

    Thanks again Guy,s

No haven't ordered anything yet. Any suggestions?

This would be around the same price. That cpu cooler is loud at full speed but should be fine to cool that cpu at about 50% where it's pretty quiet. You could go for the corsair case if you like. I'd go for Nanoxia myself. It comes in a few colors.

-edit- I forgot to add a wireless card. This would do fine.

I would be happy with a 64g ssd and 1TB HDD. So that would bring down the price. What are the main things to look for on a Mobo?

What is the diff between the Mobo you choose and the one I choose?

Going on what I have at the minute, would this be a good build to last me a few years?

The one you chose is a high end overclocking board. It also supports dual graphics cards. The xeon isn't overclockable and you won't need dual cards so theres no point paying for extras you won't use.

The xeon is more powerful than the i5 for programs that can make use of the 8 threads. Photo and video editing benefits a lot from the extra threads. Newer games are starting to make use of them as well.

It's also the newer Haswell architecture which is about 10% faster than the Ivy in the 3570k. That Asus board wouldn't be compatible with the xeon.

Your build is good as well though but with the overclockable cpu and board you would really want to be would want to be overclocking it. A cm 212 evo would get you up to around 4.5ghz.

What do you think of this Graphics Card

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B009KZ4DK4/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

    and this Mobo

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/AsRock-Z77-Motherboard-Socket-Capacitor/dp/B007MHC6K6/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1383206704&sr=8-15&keywords=asrock+motherboard

Could these be used in your build above instead the mobo and Graphics card you choose.

Let me know what you think of this.

Ok for one do not buy your graphics card on amazon. You are paying 25 euro more than other sites after currency conversion.

And to answer your question on the Gpu the r9 270x is the newer card out so would be the better choice for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

To be straight forward with you bobby I would go with bloodbaths build . Everything from the case CPU to card are all the right parts for what you are using the pc for.

I can tell you have been doing your homework reading reviews. But put your trust in bloodbath. The case he chose for the money in my opinion is better. Quiet clean good airflow with room for upgrading with a good price. CPU he picked is great. It is practically an i7

He has helped chose parts for more people than I have flipped the bird.

    Hi SterlingArcher,

Yeah bloodbath defo knows what he is talking about. Just wanted to see what options I had. Everything he had suggested has been spot on with regards reviews and specs I was looking for.

What sites would you suggest using when buying my build, will start ordering stuff today.

    Bloodbath,

Really big thanks to you for all your help, suggestions and feedback. You really have been a fantastic help. And as SterlingArcher said you really know your stuff, so thanks for sharing some of that knowledge with me.

So where do you suggest I start buying my stuff?

Should I use certain sites for say case and another for graphics cards and CPU?

Quick question. Could I play BF4 with this build if I choose to get it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

I'd use hardwareversand.de for all parts.

But if you have the time shop around. but factor in conversion rates and different delivery costs using multiple sites to make sure you're actually saving money.

And you will be able to run Bf4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭BobbyT28

    Well Guy's,

I've ordered everything apart from GPU and CPU. They had Delivery time Unknown. So I have emailed hardwareversand.de asking them when they would have them in stock? Wonder should I have just put them in the order? didn't want to be waiting for weeks before them came into stock!

I've tried looking for these on other sites but can't seem to find them \t similiar prices? Can you see them on any websites that you use?

So now that I have ordered, what else do I need before I start the build?

Does the ssd and HDD come with sata cables or will I have to order them?

I ordered the Corsair Cabride 500r, will I need any extra fans? Also looking to accessories with LEDS, any suggestions on websites that have good accessories at reasonable prices?

Edit: I think i just found GPU on dabs. Is this the same GPU?

Have the CPU on amazon similar price too.

They gave that Gpu on hardwareversand?

In stock. The one you had on dabs. Cheaper too.

    Hi Guy's,

Just an update. Everything arrived apart from CPU that I ordered from www.hoh.de I have received a DHL tracking number from them and can see that it is in transit. Should have it on Monday/Tuesday.

So any advise/tips before I start the build?

I Got 2 x Crosair AF140 (140mm) Quiet fans for top of case. Am I right in saying depending on which way you turn fans, the fans are either taking in air or removing air? Should the top 2 fans (AF140) be extracting fans or be taking in air?

    Hi Guy's,

So I have completed my first build which I am delighted about. Thanks again to eveyone for the imput, especially Bloodbath.

    This is my build,

What is the best way to check my performance and if I am performing as expected? I am pretty sure I have all my Drivers are updated. I noticed that BF4 runs very badly on Ultra and High.

Any suggestion regarding bench makring and how to check if your system is performing to the right level?

    Thanks,
    BobbyT28

Well the 270x is a mid range card. You aren't going to run bf4 on ultra on it.

If you tweak the setting manually yourself you should be able to get good results.

You did say you would be doing light gaming so emphasis was not put on the graphics card over other parts.

    Bloodbath,

That's very true, about graphics card. But I was hoping to be able to run BF4 on high though. What settings should I start tweaking to increase performance?

I've notice that screen flickers the odd time also. Is there any other info you need of me to be able to advise what tweaks and settings to use?

    Thanks.,

I can only go on the info you give. The info you gave was that it would be used for "very light gaming". You made no mention of wanting to run bf4 on high or max settings. The 270x is still a fair bit better than the 7850 you chose originally.

Overclock the graphics card. You should be able to squeeze maybe 20% more performance out of it.

Certain settings have little effect on graphics but have a big overhead on gpu resources. Ambient occlusion is one that could be lowered.

Textures and anisotropic filtering can be kept high. Lighting and shadows are the 2 other gpu killers. Play around with it until you find settings that are acceptable graphically and frame rate wise. Keep Anti aliasing off as well.

Make sure you have the latest "beta" drivers downloaded. Not just the latest official drivers.

Thanks for that info, will have a go a doing a few tweaks. Would you have the link for beta drivers for my God?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Same place you got the other drivers. The beta drivers are listed below the official ones.

    http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

    13.11 are the latest betas.

My mate plays bf4 on a 7870 near max settings which is pretty much the same as your card.
