Currently have free Sat receiver in sitting room getting signal from 28e through single cable from dish. Looking for receiver to pick up both 28 & 19e. Must have record facility to external hard drive or internal hard drive. Running second cable is not an option. Any recommendations for receiver welcome

What receiver do you have already? Is it an actual Freesat receiver or just generic FTA? Any FTA receiver can handle multiple satellite positions, with no need for a 2nd cable.

    Hi Peter

It is a free sat box. Humax make. What I am more worried about is the ability to record with only having one cable. I think I will have to watch what I record is that correct?

If I went with a combo box could I record on satellite and watch saorview and the other way round.

How long is your cable run?
If it is relatively short, couldn't you use a stacker/destacker to emulate 2 cables?

Is it a Foxsat HDR? These have 3rd party firmware available which, I believe makes it possible for non-Freesat channels (like from 19 east) to appear in the Freesat EPG, though I think without programme info & ability to set recording from the EPG. Otherwise you would have to switch to non-Freesat mode to view 19 east channels.

You can also loop a cable from lnb out to lnb2 & operate both tuners in single cable mode, which allows you to watch & record programmes on the same frequency & polarity 'block', not just the same transponder.

Of course, to get a signal from 19 east in the 1st place, you will need either a 2nd lnb on your current dish or a 2nd dish & a DiSEqC switch, which allows the receiver to automatically switch between sat. positions, depending on the selected channel. Or you could use a motorised dish.

Foxsat HD doesn't record. HDR is the twin-tuner PVR model.

So it looks like you need a new receiver & if you want to record the Saorview channels too, then a combi would be the way to go. Choose between a few Saorview approved models or receivers without Saorview approval, such as the Ferguson Arivas & various Linux OS boxes, ranging in price & functionality.

Coming from Freesat though, you might be concerned about the lack of a proper EPG for the satellite channels on a lot of these boxes, with just 'now & next' info available. Saorview channels will have full 7-day info, whether the box is Saorview approved or not.

O.P. - Slightly off your topic, I hope you don't mind, but you say you are using a Freesat receiver. I am using a Sky box in freesat mode. Regarding Channel 4,Channel 5 and the E4 channels, they seem to close freeview access to movies in the evenings. I get a message 'insert your viewing card Have you noticed this. DO you have any restrictions watching Movies with your set up? Again sorry for going of topic in your thread.
