Advice about emergency tax confused?

    Hi,

    when i start a full time job i been told something about emergency tax and taking like 100 euro off wages is this true or how work? i would like to know around how much be taken off wages and for how long i have pay emergency tax? say i earning 360 each week before any tax how much be taken off?
    Also is there a way to prevent paying this or get it back ?

    Advice i would be grateful

    You might need to request a certificate of tax credits using Form 12A- see this link for how to do that.

    For general information about the emergency tax basis, see here

    The emergency basis generally only applies when incomplete information about the tax status of an employee exists. Typically, you might not have a PPS number or a certificate of tax credits. Once the problem is sorted, your employer will refund you any overpaid taxes. If you are not sorted out by the end of the year you will be able to go to the tax office and request a review of your 2013 taxes- any refund due to you will be repaid.

    Ah that makes perfect sense to me now thanks very much taking time out get back to me appreciate i not as worried about it now i was thinking crazy things like take 100 euro wages each week or something lol
