I'll be in SF soon for 2 weeks, I wondered can anyone recommend any good coffee places?

I went to both of these last time I was there and they were excellent:

    http://www.bluebottlecoffee.com

They have a few locations each.

Blue Bottle Coffee is amazing, try to visit it if you're into your speciality coffee. Its run by an Irish guy as far as I know.

They're big into coffee there, so I think the standard is very high in general.

Definitively a plus 1 on this one.

Cafe Trieste in North Beach, just off Colombus.

Had one in the morning and went back at lunchtime.

    Its kinda famous too.

Its opposite the best bar in SF too - the Saloon !!!

Awww...you lucky person!! SF is amazing! I'll second Blue Bottle Coffee. Before I went to SF some ppl recommended Peet's Coffee... personally I thought it was poor and expensive. But good luck. Please let us know how you get on!

Peet's is a regional chain that Starbucks based learned from. It's superior to Starbucks so fine for every day but not on the gourmet level of the other places. The biggest downside of the other places listed is contending with the hipster contingent.

Plenty of great coffee in San Francisco, a lot of great little independent coffee shops in and around North beach.

I can confirm the above that Blue bottle coffee is excellent, went there a few times. They do a nice affogato (espresso poured over ice cream, also iced coffee New Orleans style if that's your thing.

On my last day there I bought some beans to take home as follows:

    Retrofit Espresso

    http://www.bluebottlecoffee.com/products/retrofit-espresso

This is excellent, had a shot or 2 this morning.

    Hayes Valley Espresso

    http://www.bluebottlecoffee.com/products/hayes-valley-espresso

I'll try this one next but sounds promising also

    Colombia Las Margaritas

    http://www.bluebottlecoffee.com/products/colombia-las-margaritas-honey

I bought this one to use with the Kalita/Aeropress but haven't tried it yet.

Finally this Sumatra was what I'd been drinking in my aeropress over there, it was nice without being anything spectacular.

To be honest I think we could do worse than these guys for a group buy at some point.

It might sound sad but I was looking forward to your update so thanks for that!

I couldnt visit the blue bottle shop myself when I went to San Francisco. I bought their book on ebay a few months later but I have always heard good things about them. You are so lucky.. if I go back to SF I will def pay them a visit!
