Amplifier switch?

I have an amp in the boot of my car which the power cable is directly connected to the battery. Now that I'm not driving my car as often as I used to, the battery on occasion has been flat due to the amp constantly being on.

I want to put a switch in the circuit so I can just turn on/off the amp when I use my car.

Would anyone have any recommendations as to what sort of switch I should buy?

    Thanks

It must be wired incorrectly. There shud be a trigger wire going to head unit so the amp doesn't switch on till u switch the radio on. Sort that out and you won't need an extra switch.

I have the remote wire connected into the headunit exactly the way it should be but the power still remains on even with radio off/key out of ignition.

I dont mind putting in a switch either.

Your remote (REM) wire must be looped to the +12VDC from the vehicle battery which is incorrect.

If you can see where the loop connecting these two terminals is, you could install a longer loop with a simple toggle switch in line. It means you'll have to go to the boot to turn the amp on/off but it's a 5 min fix.

The correct wiring should really have the remote (REM) connection from your dash stereo - also referred to as the electric antenna connection.

You could also connect an ignition live to the REM connection which will only power the amp when the ignition is switched on

Most recent cars operate through the CAN bus to turn the radio on, therefore there is no switched 12V source on the radio harness.

In that case you either use a fuse tap from the fuse box. You should be able to find a switched source with a multimeter, if this is not working out this way you can install an ignition power generator that will work when the key is in only.

Easiest and cheapest way is to use a fuse tap. You will need to remove lots of trim though is there is no fuse box in the trunk.

I can help out if you need.
