Driving license renewal, no passport.

A relative needs to renew their driving license shortly but they don't have a passport. As far as I can see the only form of photographic ID accepted for Irish citizens is a passport of Public Services Card, they have neither. They do have their current driving licence which is normally what they use for photo ID, but this appears to be useless in applying for its replacement.

Am I missing something here or do they now need to apply for a passport in order to get a driving license renewed?

From reading that it appears they just need something to verify their pps number.

Looks like a P60 would do. Best to call them & confirm though.

Where does one get evidence of PPS number nowadays when all my revenue dealings are done online?
I have not seen a P60 since I became self employed.

Don't you have to file tax returns every year? Surely you have some documentation to confirm this? It's easy print off these receipts from your ROS page.

No. They used to for a couple of years some years ago, but nowadays you only have one of those cards if you have some truck with the DSP.

I got me E111 card which is handy for that kind of stuff. No picture, mind.

But, now that we're all in happy LPT-land, we all have something from Revenue with that, which does have your PPS number on it.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
