New Camera. Options?

They are both Canon cameras you've linked to there - you mentioned Nikon in the message but maybe it was a typo. It's personal preference no one is better than the other, I prefer canon I think it gives you more options.

Anyway, the lenses are way way way more important than the camera body. Spend your money on good glass, don't worry about getting the best camera out there.

I would look at going 2nd hand if I were you. I've bought most of my gear 2nd hand, they are well built and people look after their gear, you'll get way more for your money this way. Have a good look on adverts.ie. The 18-135mm lens is a good starter, get some primes after that.

I have the 700D, the 650D is pretty much the exact same camera but about €80 cheaper. I'd agree with the above and go for second hand items. Adverts is great for finding lenses, I've bought and sold there.

I have a nikon and was thinking of keeping this as a second camera. I have a kit lens and a 55-300 zoom lens. It's ok.

I want to go with Nikon, the 3100 was always going to be a starting camera for me and now I would like something bigger. Better sensor, higher resolution and better overall camera.

I am able to up my budget to about 300 - 400 per lens. I was hoping to get a good close up macro and something for landscape. Would you have any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. I have checked through adverts and nothing has caught my eye yet.

I would rather buy new and have the warranty. I am not guaranteed when buying second hand. It's a lot of money to risk.

If you want to move up then buy new glass rather then a body.if you shooting landscapes go for wide or ultra wide angle.with a new body and a kit lens you will be at the same spot as you are now and going to fail to see the difference.

If that's the case, why is there so many different cameras? Sure what's stopping everybody purchasing a d3100 or 1100d for 300 euro and spending higher amounts on lenses?

Higher end bodies are targeted at pros who make their bread and butter from photography. Sure you can go on a rampage and get best body the money can buy, yes you will get less noise, better control on various settings etc but will you get any use out of it to justify the price?because at the end of the day light that you are trying to capture have to go thru the lens first to end up on the sensor. Better sensor will not make your pictures better if you use inferior lens.

The 700d is not a professional camera, it's a high end entry level DSLR. I'm not out to buy a 5d mkIII or the likes. Even the semi professional cameras are out of my budget and to be honest, I have no interest of getting something that expensive.

I will be buying higher quality lenses than what I have, but not exceptionally higher. I have a kit lens and a 70-300 zoom lens (worth about 270).

Would like to have a prime wide angle for about 400 and a macro for about the same price. I am still in the process of learning about the different types of lenses, their functions and the likes so not prepared to dive in just yet.

There is a second canon in the family so I will be sharing lenses instead of doubling up.

What are peoples opinions on the Nikon 700D?

    or the 60D?

Sorry I thought we were talking about Nikon D700?
Good example of blind reading :)

Well if someone in your family have a canon then it's a no brainer that you should own one as well rather than a Nikon.
Again you can buy the 700D but I have an impression that you are on a tight budget, and IQ wise I doubt that you will notice any difference between 550D and 700D

So what you really should be asking what lenses are best for what I want and then see what's left for the body.
Body is more or less a convenience for an amateur photographer.Like if you would shoot mainly sports it would be wise to get 7D with its burst rate and crop sensor but would it really change anything if you are going to miss one or two shots with a body with lower burst rate but cheaper?

Thanks for the replies :). I'm going to stick with Canon though ;)

I have shortlisted a couple of lenses but finding it somewhat difficult to decide on a wide angle lens.

I think this would be a great purchase, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM and possibly Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM for landscapes (not sure if this will fit the 700d though). The wide angle is somewhat over budget. If I could get something a little cheaper it would be awesome :)

This lens only fit crop bodies like 700D wouldn't go on full frame.
Have that myself and it's s great lens.if you want something cheaper there are sigmas 10-20mm f4-5.6 and more expensive f3.5 or if you need a really bright one there is tokina 11-16mm f2.8 or 12-24 f4.plenty alternatives...

The Sigma 10-24mm is a great lens and excellent value. Also have a look at the Sigma 105mm F2.8 - another great lens and cheaper than the Canon.
See www.adverts.ie you#ll usually find both on there
