I bought a used van recently which had been parked up for a while. it went for DOE on the 21st of Oct but had to go back for retest today 29th of Oct for a few minor things.

I got home and looked at the pass cert and on the bottom it said valid until 01/11/13, surly I have not been awarded ONLY 4 days DOE after paying for test and retest?

am I getting mixed up with something?

Take this up with your local TD as it is a government department ( RSA ) who make these unjust laws. If you happen to come across one of our elite senators just give them a kick in the ass for their recommendations and admenents to such legislation.

out of curiosity how much did it cost you to DOE the van? thats absolute madness. i just posted about a BMW and i have a similar question about its NCT.

Test was in around 100 mark I think and retest was just shy 50 euro. I think you can call and possibly get some dispensation.

I understand it is to prevent people letting their DOE laps, but I made all the correction requested for retest and then payed the fee surly the van is good for road worthiness, why didnt they just charge the back payment required as it has to be paid anyway. But now I need book and retest next week for van just tested.

    absolute scandal

I have always got a doe for a year from the date passed on my camper.

Nct is due from the cars birthday.

It must be a mistake you would be better ring the person that issued it first.

    Post back here the result.

New rules mean DOE now is one year on anniversary of registration regardless of test date...

My test was out October when I tested it I got a disc expiry 10/14. The van was registered February. So they seem to have a few ways of doing it unless I get caught on next year for a February expiry. But the test was done this time in the new system. It's hard to know what there doing.

if thats the case could they not of given 1 year & 4 days test, it is mainly to generate further income. I just got off the phone and the lady who was actually very helpful said I am entitled to at least 6 months.

Yes I think 4 days was a bit off the wall in fairness

It must have changed very recently as I only got my van tested only a few weeks ago but it was tested in the new system I got the cvrt disc for the window and all. You could well be right I could get caught next time to do it so I would only get a 4 month test. This system is turning into a joke IMO.

Test expiry date is calculated from last test date now, not registration date. If you had waited until test had expired by more than 12 months, you would have got 6 mts test. Stupid, I know, but RSA are trying to eliminate "slippage", where people are letting test lapse while taxing for additional 9 months. All imports now receive 6 mts test only because there is no record of last test, do system defaults to 6 mts
