Im looking at getting a tub diet feeder ta feed bales, beet, meal and straw. Just wondering what kind of horse power a 12 cubic meter would require. Would a ford 5610 drive one?
Anyone any ex[perience with Tarrup or Abbey tub feeders??? Thanks

5610 would be at its limits but if operated correctly should have no problem on a level yard. when driving around the yard you will have 9t on your tail. A easy hill would cause you problems. I drove a Keenan 140 with a mf 165 for a whole winter, needless to say the 165 starts with the sight of the key nowadays :D, often there was a plumb of smoke when she met something hard. Hard to believe I done that :D

Yard is dead level so no hassle with hills. Would you have to empty it straight after filling it or would she start it when full?

Keenan takes less horse power to drive than a tub feeder. Dunno about any other paddle feeder.

Lads, the op is talking about a tub feeder here not a paddle.

The 5610 will probably be on her knees but if you are very careful loading it, you possibly will get by.

You can install a extra gear box to power up/down feeder slows it down but works

We drive a 10 cubic meter Tullow diet feeder with a 62 hp Deutz. No problem to her

Im lead to believe that my 90hp feeder tractor will run a 15cu tub no problem and was told 110hp for a 24cu tub, power isnt the problem but weight moving it around the yard

    Haven't seen too many 90hp 955's :)

The dual speed pro is more for saving fuel by using 1000 rpm PTO speed so may not suit all tractors.

We ran one of the early Hi-Spec paddle feeders (10m3, if I recall correctly) on a John Deere 3130 (90ish horsepower) for many years.
It handled precision cut grass silage, maize silage, and chopped beet easily.
We were long gone out of single/double chop grass by then so never got to try it with that, and didn't have the nerve to try it with unchopped straw.
I suspect we'd have needed a good supply of shearbolts :D

We also used it to mix our own coarse ration from bulk ingredients.

We used to leave it overnight fully loaded for the morning feed for the cows, and it (usually!) was no bother to start up mixing/discharging again.
You'd very occasionally do a shearbolt if you were clumsy with the PTO clutch.

I'm no expert on those and I think they have a Bosch injector pump so just screw her up a little.

That block is well capable of more power. A legendary engine.
