Unless you know the car and/or it has an impeccable service history and low mileage then I certainly wouldn't recommend it. They are a pretty soft engine to say the least. Most of them will be burning a lot of oil at this stage in their life.

it has 118k miles,, looks spotless ,i was told i has a fsh but i haven't looked at it or any service books yet, i only drive 25 miles a week max!! and only expect to keep it for two years or so but i don't want a money pit for those years

Is it a private sale from adverts/donedeal or a dealer? If a dealer, is there any warranty offered with it?
Do consider taking it to a local mechanic and have them look it over. A couple hundred spent on a mechanic now can save you more down the road.

Look on car review sites for that particular model and see what they say (besides the advice you get here of course).

Ask the owner to email the FSH over to you. There's a 90% chance you won't get it and you'll have saved yourself a 200 mile round trip. At €1500 it's all about the actual car rather than the make/model.

I had a 2001 version of this and the engine was very soft indeed. Also burned a lot of oil. I wouldnt recommend the 1.6 petrol, just not enough umphh really.
