Nice list, problem is it's wrong on almost every bullet point.
10 This idea has been discredited so often but if your going to get your first point from Zeitgeist the movie it's not looking good for the rest.
9 I'v no idea why he seems to think religion = Christianity. Must be his US centric world view.
8 Again conflagration of Christian and old treatment Judaism.
7 Because it's not, duno why he thinks it is other than the old US centric view again.
6 What need I say, religion causes war is the oldest and least truthful claim ever. It is used to justify war and stir up tribal identy but as to being the first cause? No evidence.
5 Er..Whats this got to do with anything?
4 So we are all sinners, did he miss that bit?
3 At last, we learn his particular religion.
2 By definition. Oh and the can be spiritual with religion as well.
1 FFS. Is that the best he can come up with?

All in all a lazy list worthy of a teenager in their rebellious phase.

Here's a thought, reasons we should leave religion behind; because we miss the point of it so spectacularly that we would be better off trying something else.

I agree that the list is somewhat mistitled, perhaps, but I'm not so sure all ten points can be dismissed so readily.

    10. Reason: The Messiah Story Has Been Around For Thousands Of Years

Elements of Christianity can be found in earlier religions, and the idea of a Messianic figure is nothing new. On what grounds can you say that the idea has been discredited?

    9. “Mythology” Used To Be Religion

His point here, I think, is that what we now regard as mythology was once taken as religion. I'd imagine he's referencing Christianity as the dominant religion in the world at present. I'd forgive him if he used the terms somewhat loosely, as a) he's writing for an audience where Christianity is the dominant religion, and b) it's a top ten list on the internet.

    8. The Bible Doesn’t Line Up With Modern Values

Well, it doesn't. Need I say more?

    7. The Bible Doesn’t Work As A Historical Text

Again, because it doesn't, and it is claimed by Christians to have at least some historical veracity. Do I detect a subtle whiff of anti-Americanism in your comments, by the way? I once knew a man from there, and he was very nice.

    6. Religion Is Behind Many Conflicts, Large And Small

Does he present religion as the first cause of war? He mentions religious conflicts, of course, of which there are so, so many. But where does he describe religion as an exclusive first cause of war?

    5. The Religious Are Not Favored

I think the point he's trying to make is that, of all the world religions, there is none that seems to have an advantage over another in terms of the welfare of their followers. The Gods don't actively smite their unbelievers, and people of all faiths die just as equally in tsumanis. There are no favoured people, as there is no god to favour them. It's not a fantastic argument, but I can see where he's coming from.

    4. The Religious Are Not More Morally Sound Than Others

Religious beliefs are not an indicator of strong moral values, and vice versa. That's pretty much his first sentence. Again, it's not exactly a controversial thing to say. Being a Christian does not make you (impersonal second person!) a better person, but you may think it does.

    3. Science Is Starting To Answer All Of The Big Questions

    Science is a religion?

    2. There Can Be Spirituality Absent Religion

He's right here, as far as I can suppose.

    1. Religion Helps Us Avoid Responsibility

He's absolutely on the ball here, God's Will and all that. Rather than a glib 'ffs' I'd like to know what exactly you think is wrong with this point?

I stopped reading after the first point.

Jesus's birthday is probably not December 25th, it is celebrated on December 25th but nowhere in historical records or the bible does it mention a date.
