Just heard the news he is leaving... little pissed and shocked at this.

Wonder who will be team principle now, Wolf?

And where will Ross go... talk of him retiring.

I wouldn't rule him out retiring. He's been involved in F1 since the late 70's and might spend the rest of his days fishing.

I'm sure the likes of Sky would love to have him on as an expert commentator.

It's hard to imagine him out of the sport entirely.

    Paddy Lowe maybe?

Be divided between Lowe and Wolff, Mercedes seem to heading away from just having one person in charge of the team. Its mentioned here on the BBC site http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/24725406

Mercedes believe a single team principal is an outdated concept given the complexities of modern F1.

I think this is going to be a trainwreck for Mercedes. There's a reason why F1 teams have a main team principal, it works.

I could see this happening, there really isn't a whole lot more for him to prove.

Believe it or not Sky don't have that kind of money.

I'd love to see him take someone like maybe Alonso or Button to McLaren (Shush, it's a secret!) and do what he can do. Give him a budget (and an extra 20% you don't tell him about) and get a few titles. So much retardation in F1 these days and Mercedes are going to show it for the next few years whatever Ross does.

What's Rory at these days? ;)

Mercedes are going down the route of a top heavy team and no one steering it. I'd be impressed if they were consistent front runners in three years.

If I was Brawn, I'd have pick of the teams to go to. And as a wildcard, I'd go to Williams.

why are they even called a team pricipal anyway, would General Manager or CEO not be more appropriate since they are just businesses or sub divisions of other businesses

I dont think Sky would interest him at all. He is a racer, lives for the sport. Cant see him working for Sky. He may move to Williams and try and bring them back from the brink.

Some of them have titles like that. Team Principal is more of a sporting term.

Claire Williams would have something to say about that I reckon.

She is running F all of that team. Brawn would be welcomed to Williams without a doubt but he wouldnt go there unless he thought he could do something. That would require stability and Budget. That said, Williams appear to have reasonable budget usually. Perhaps with Brawn on board and improved performance, new sponsors would come in.

You could say the same about Brawn replacing any team principal on the grid. I think its unlikely he would end up at Williams but if it did happen Claire Williams would probably be "promoted" out of the way.

A commentary change would be welcomed. Croft hasnt a clue.

I wonder if he could be tempted back to Ferrari as team principal? They have been lagging for the past few seasons.

As much as I respect Brawn, the man is F1 personified, but I don't think the commentary box would be his strong point.

    Was wondering the same myself...

I watched Ted and the guys discuss this in depth on Sky F1 HD and there are a number of rumors around the paddock.

    1) Williams
    2) Replace Whitmarsh at McLaren
    3) Replace Stefano at Ferrari (Cant see this happening)

He knows what it takes to win, i think any team would lucky to have him.

Ohh and I am not being sexist but in a team that has had the worst run in their entire F1 history, would you rather Brawn or Claire who is unproven.

I think Whitmarsh's role at McLaren is safe. He recruited car designer Matt Morris from Sauber and head aerodynamicist Peter Prodomou from Red Bull. Getting Red Bulls head aero guy is a big coup for McLaren.

On Brawn to Williams, he would team up with Pat Symonds, and if Massa was to replace Maldonado, or even Bottas, he would bring some experience to the team and show the baseline for the car. Rob Smedley will also be there by all accounts so that would be another person to work on strategy. Now I'm not saying it would be Red Bull-esque, but it would be better than today.

That's a lot of new faces at Williams if that was to happen. What's their financial situation though these days? As we all know money dictates everything in F1 and Williams haven't had an awful lot of it for a long time.

I can't imagine the board at Fiat are too happy with Ferrari's performance this season. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a move for Brawn during the off season. Also, weren't there doubts raised about the reliability of the new Ferrari V6? If Domenicali is still around next year and Ferrari have another crap season, then I expect they'll be looking for a new team boss.

That's where I'd put my money too. Honda sure want Brawn. He might take on some advisory role next year (with plenty time for fishing) and be back full time at McLaren in 2015.

Well Symonds is already there and Smedley is reported to be signed on for next season. If Maldonado leaves and Massa replaces him, I don't think they'd lose too much of that 30 million that he brings to the table, and whatever the shortfall would be, I'd imagine Massa would have the speed to make it back in the constructors table. This year they'll get the base 25m and maybe another 12m for 9th in the table, and if the rumoured side deal with FOM is true, you could add somewhere up to 5m on top of that. That comes to $42m from FOM alone. $30m from PDVSA brings that up to $72m. Add Bottas' sponsor money and that could be anywhere from $75m-$85m for the team this year.

Everyone here seems t think that Brawn would only return as a Team Principal, no one seems to suggest that he could resume a Technical Chief role at any team he wants? If he does then I could see him back at Ferrari or working for the FIA.

    This too shall pass.

Yes, maybe he will take a role of Technical Chief at a team, its hard to know. However, I dont see him working for the FIA.
