    Hi all,

While driving my mates car the other day I noticed that at slow speeds over bumps the back end feels as if it skips over to the left a bit when it went over pot hole or something with the left rear.

The car is rear wheel drive and has recently has new shocks fitted ( under my advice ) as the back end was all over the shop before that. new shocks made a huge difference but I am wondering if a bushing or something might be worn also.

Any clues as to what it might be?

    Ta Rob

    Make, model, year?

    I'm guessing BMW 5, 6 or 7 series. :D

Most bushings would be rattling and clanking before it 'seriously' affected handling. You will have to get it in the air and give the roll bars, drop links and control arms a good yank!
When the shocks were changed, were the mounts ok?

    What type of car?

Part number 2 (ball joint, hope you can see the pic) wears on the rear of big BMWs and causes loss of toe control. It may well be another part, worthwhile getting the rest checked out, but that's the usual suspect.

Another symptom of that part failing is a squeak from the rear when getting into the car. Genuine ones are made by Lemfoerder and are cheap enough, but whoever fixes it needs a special tool or the right sized drifts & other bits and pieces to get it out & in, as the aluminium knuckle that holds it is easily damaged. They don't last long at all.

I'll also add that no.15 is the arm that went on me lately too, gave the ability for about 10 degrees of track!!
Safest to do is get it looked over!

Numbers 20 and 15 in the above diagram also wear out regularly in the E60s.
