Couldn't find an open thread on this but I just wanted to find out before ringing the social welfare office. I am having a problem with one of my managers in work over the past few months he has been making my life a living hell giving me the jobs nobody else will do, ringing me 15 mins before my shift starts telling me he doesn't need me in today to come in tomorrow instead, etc I am also close to my final warning for not reaching my targets and other things most of which I received through no fault of my own my work place doesn't have a trade union so when you get in trouble for something whether you did it or not you just have to accept it or you will get into even more trouble.

I am only working 3 half days a week and have to hand in the dockets every week so I am basically getting 75% of the full dole payment every week + wages on top of that so if I quit I will end up with less money if I was able to get the full dole but it really isn't doing my mental health any good staying in this job I have been working there for 5 years. I am coming home from work in a bad mood then getting into arguments with people at home and snapping at them over nothing all because of the way I feel after being in that job on any given day. Then on my days off I am dreading the thoughts of having to go back in.

It's not a case of me leaving my current job so I can sit at home because I hate doing that I would prefer to be out working but really can't go on in this job + I would be surprised if I even made it past Christmas because I am just waiting to be called up on the next thing I have done wrong. I have been searching for a new job since July online and sending out CVs on regular basis and haven't heard a word back since except for the usual "Thanks for your CV we have no jobs at the moment but will keep your CV on file". So basically want I to know is can I leave my job or if I get sacked will I be able to claim the dole. One person told you can't you have to be let go another told me you don't have to give any reason they won't check or will the social welfare take personal circumstances into account (Your reason for leaving the job)

I will continue to keep looking for work but it's been nearly 3 months so I don't have much hope of getting anything.

    Disqualification 9 weeks

A person who would otherwise be entitled to payment may be disqualified for receiving JA for such period as may be determined by a Deciding Officer, but in any case not exceeding 9 weeks, for any of the following reasons:

Loss of employment because of wilful misconduct
Leaving employment voluntarily without just cause
Failure or neglect to avail of any reasonable opportunity of obtaining suitable employment

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
