For anyone interested, Film 2013 will return to BBC1 on Wed 6 November at 23.05 (00.05 for BBC NI).

I have to say I really enjoy this show and in particular, Danny Leigh's reviews. Love the top 5 countdowns and behind the scenes features as well.

I really enjoy it too. I've seen Claudia Winkleman get some awful abuse for her part in it but personally I enjoy this format much more than when it was Jonathon Ross staring down the camera reading off the auto cue.

Can't wait for this to return great show. Love the top 5 each week and the debate it brings. Plus really like dynamic and generally very different viewpoints given by Danny Leigh and Claudia Winkelman each week.

Nice one, was wondering when it was due back. I really enjoy it too, Danny Leigh really knows his stuff and is fairly open minded too. He'll call it as it is. Claudia Winkelman is great on it too, I wouldn't really rate her opinion all that much but she expresses it in a way that comes across like she's just a genuine enthusiast of cinema, as opposed to be some know it all critic.

I think this is what I like most about this format. It comes across as a more open discussion and is more accessible for those of us who just really like films but still has enough cinema buff stuff for those who are really into the medium.

Anyone else have UPC? I'm seeing Break For The Border with Hector in the time slot where I should be seeing Film 2013!

I have UPC and series linked it to record and it recorded it fine for me. Started late as usual though!

I don't see it listed tonight either, unless it's on really late.

EDIT: Just spotted it at 00:05. I hate being stuck with BBC NI, at least with Sky you can get the different regional BBC's if you want to watch it at a decent hour instead of Stormont Today or whatever guff they put on instead.

    Is it repeated tonight .

No, episode 2 of the new series is on tonight at 5 past midnight.

Fairly sure they show a repeat at some stage during the week, though.

Have to say I'm a little disappointed they seem to have cut the top 5 countdowns from this series. It was one of my favourite features.

Seems to have been cut to make way for the guest critics each week.

It's never on time with BBC Northern Ireland which means my recording is often messed up, very annoying. Also with IPlayer being restricted makes it very annoying for Irish viewers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,962 ✭✭✭✭dark crystal

Yeah, it's always at least 5 minutes late, so you have to fast forward through the tail end of Question Of Sport to watch it and then it cuts off at the very end.

It's like that every series for some reason. Extremely annoying.

Last week's recording was 70 minutes. Thought "oh cool they're padding out the show!", thing didn't start until 45 minutes in!

Think I'll just have to watch live from now on.

Strange I've never had any issues with my recording once or twice it's started a few minutes early but have never missed the end of it or been cut off early.

Got to watch tonight's episode live. First one I've actually managed to see this series.

I really like this show but I'm not a fan of having a guest critic every week although Peter Bradshaw was good last night.

I found him pretty annoying when interupted people when the were making a point. I could see the other guy getting fairly frustrated at one stage

I dont mind the critics been on, but she's so difficult & boring to listen to

Agree with that. I haven't seen any other episode this year to compare but this guy wasn't my cup of tea at all.

Bit harsh? Not sure she says enough to consider it hard to listen to. Especially this week, just the intros to clips and interviews, she barely got a word in with the guy in the middle rabbiting on.

I liked when it was just Claudia and Danny bouncing stuff off each other. They complimented each other well, the professional critic and the average movie-loving, movie-goer. Having a second critic means that nobody seems to get a word in edgewise any more. Still a decent program, but I prefer the older format.

    Returns on 5th November: https://twitter.com/BBCFilm2014

That means maybe five or six episodes before it's off the air again for Christmas....

^ I don't get why they bring it back at this time of year particularly when there's a year in the title. I guess most of the Oscar type films are out this time of year so maybe that's it.

Don't think it ever got it's mojo back since the great Barry Norman left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,962 ✭✭✭✭dark crystal

Just a reminder the show returns tonight @ 23.35. As always, set your DVRs for an extra 10-15 minutes as it always runs over!

Tonight, they'll be reviewing Interstellar and there'll be an interview with Benedict Cumberbatch.

Not sure if Claudia will be hosting tonight, as I believe her daughter is in hospital following a Halloween accident. Hopefully she gets well soon.

Don't think she will as it's been confirmed she won't be on Strictly this weekend either.

Yeah hopefully her daughter is ok and Claudia will be back soon enough.
Really enjoy Film 2014, ridiculously short seasons though, they should run it for a few more months a year at least.

    Is BAZ still alive???
I think the first one of these I saw was FILM 76 with THE HINDENBERG coming crashing down. Still a pretty decent disaster film mind.

    No TOWERING INFERNO though.

Has Claudia not come back to this at all? She's been back on Strictly for a few weeks now.

No, they still have bloody Antonia Quirke filling in. They should have let Danny take the reigns instead.

    I love Danny.

Yeah I was thinking that myself, they shouldve had danny as lead presenter. Antonia just doesnt seem comfortable or relaxed and so her delivery is all over the shop. Just shows though how good a job Claudia does on a regular basis.

Claudia is a master of making things seem very chaotic and off the cuff but still actually managing to steer everything in the right direction.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,464 ✭✭✭e_e

Robbie Collin is an excellent critic, wouldn't even mind if it was just him and Danny on the show.

Just saw there that Claudia is back next week :)

Yeah Antonia hasn't been quite up to the same standard as Claudia over the last few weeks. But we will have the main woman back soon! :-)

    Apparently she's back next week.

Maybe it was easier to start doing Strictly again as it is on at an earlier time. (And it is also a bigger programme, of course).

The Film XXXX programme has always been live when Claudia has done it. There's no need for it to be like that really, although it is pretty cool. Even if we never get it live here in Ireland. It's always an hour (or so) later than the UK broadcast! :-(

Claudia has the one of the worst tastes in film i have ever seen. Everything is 'I loved it' or 'I cried'

She probably ends up not liking one film in total during the entire series
