    Hi there,
My husband bought a car 8 days ago & the tax was out on it. I decided this morning to check if I can tax it online while the change of ownership is being processed. I was able to check that the change of ownership hasn't been processed at all. We contacted the seller & he said he sent the change of ownership form off to Shannon 7 days ago. Does anyone know how long it takes to show up on the system as being processed? Thanks

My experience from last few years show that it usually took between 5 and 10 working days.

However considering the fact that with new off the road declaration loophole people are changing ownership of vehicles way more often, so there might be bigger delays now.

Absolutely no way that it'd be processed at this stage, probably not even this stage next week to be honest!

Relax all is fine :) It'll arrive in time, the guards won't mind once you tell them it was recently bought!

It can take a week or two normally

Ok Thank you for the replies, I knew it took a few weeks for logbook to arrive but with the facility of tracking the change of ownership online I thought it might come up that they had at least received it. Thanks again

No that'll show it processed and it will probably arrive the day after.
The online checker seems very accurate in fairness.

Just wait for the log book. The guards won't do you for no tax as you just bought the car. It took over a week for my mazda's logbook.

Can you guarantee that to OP?

Ah Cinio obviously it can't be guaranteed, but I'm yet to meet a guard that will.
Once you explain the situation it's always fine.

Sure otherwise how could anybody buy a car in Ireland?
As the Logbook always takes weeks to return.

Oh surely chance that any guard would do OP for driving is minimal.
But jacksie66 said they won't do him, so this statement is bit too far.
There is no law allowing for driving untaxed vehicle in such circumstance, so if gard want to do him, he can.

In most countries if you are buying a car that is not road legal (f.e. missing test, missing tax, etc) you either sort out all the paperwork before taking it from seller, or you tow it back home.
On the other hand, in most places you can usually sort out paperwork the same day - so this normally isn't a problem like in Ireland where sometimes you need months to do it. Ireland is just exceptional.
