150mb connection and steaming HD you tube is next to useless constant buffering both on a wireless and wired connection, 720p not much better. This has only happened since getting the free upgrade from 50mb to 150mb, using the same Cisco router? Engineer out twice said everything was OK speed wise but he didn't b check you tube? Any suggestions or is anyone else in the same boat??

youtube can be quite bad itself regardless of your broadband. have you baselines any other HD video streaming sites?

if you are using chrome, install youtube options plugin, if has helped any buffering issues I've had in the past.

well if netflix plays fine that suggests no problem with your broadband as I doubt UPC throttle youtube (has been known though!)

try viemo or any gaming website for 1080p content. thought netflix did? agree with token - try the chrome plugin or use the force HTML 5 youtube video plugin:
    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/youtube5-chromed/clbpnceimfklokcaoajgigdoeoanimeh

(this plugin tends to break inlined link youtube video's though but you can disable it on those pages with a quick click in the toolbar)

Thanks I will try your suggestions tonight after work, engineer coming again tomorrow just to be on safe side, weird though that it only started after the speed upgrade

    Having the same issue recently.

Some web pages taking an absolute age to load or not at all. Others fine.

Yeah, I guessed this but UPC told me to hard reset so I gave that a go anyway.

I wish they'd just say it rather than insisting you reset a few times and hard reset.

I had this issue a while back and refreshing the youtube video would cause it to load properly after a few efforts now it makes zero difference.

I use magic actions chrome plug in. Does a lot more than just pre-buffering though. 1080p preselect etc. it's very rare I run into buffering problems now.

Just came on to agree with this. I'm on UPC 150mb and have ZERO issues playing 1080 clips with no buffering.

One thing I will say is that 1080 youtube clips need a seriously powerful PC/Video card. Don't even try it on an older PC with less than 8gb RAM. It just won't play smoothly no matter how fast your connection is.
I would bet your issues are 100% related to the CPU / GPU not the actually broadband connection.

It really depends which clips you are playing. Some will run fine as they are more popular and more likely to be hosted more locally to the user.

You're assertion about the requirements for 1080p youtube videos just doesn't conform to real world experience. It might look slightly better on a high-end GFX card or monitor but it will run fine on a pretty average pc.

Damit problem is back again, exact same thing it was gone for a few months but exact same thing again now. On a Thomson router now it was the Cisco one the last time. it was perfect all over Christmas but this problem has reared its ugly head again in the last 2 days :( now sky go keeps buffering on my Xbox and that connected directly

True. Popular videos are spread to more CDNs. Average PC these days has at least 4gbs of ram and half decent GPU. More than enough to play 1080p on multiple screens. Even Intel HD4000 could easily do this.
