Time change and Saorview receivers

Did/does anyone have any issues with the time setting on their receivers? There was always a few posts on previous occasions.

I noticed on Sunday moring that my Walker PVR did not auto update the time until I switched the unit on, it was displaying 1 hr ahead of local time. It would've been a problem if I had something set to record before I manually switched on the PVR.

My LIDL E-MOTION Saorview approved TV can't handle Summertime - I had to set the time to Amsterdam GMT+1 all summer to get it to display properly. Just now after your post I went back look at it and it was a hour hour "fast" so I changed it to Dublin (GMT) and it's ok.

Wonder if it's like the Gsm phones that in ireland never seem to be able to be able to get the correct time from the system but do get it when abroad. Or the RTE RDS broadcasts that don't seem to carry certain codes properly - I've had my radio automatically switch over FROM a traffic broadcast on RTE radio 1 to 2FM and back at the end of the traffic alert! So I no longer use the TA setting. And the prime RDS function where the system is supposed to retune to the strongest transmission of a channel as you drive along? Never, ever had that work in Ireland.

My car clock (RDS) also didn't update Sun morning, had to manually update. My DAB clock radio did auto update.

Regarding the TA feature on RDS I thought RTÉ abandoned that a long time ago because people didn't understand the feature or how to switch it off and got complaints about it switching stations.

Never had a problem with the AF (alternative frequencies) function as I drove across the country, is it switched-on on your car radio?

From the time they introduced FM I got the impression nobody in RTE gave a toss about using the technology to the fullest extent. The quality difference between BBC FM (when we were able to get it via RTE Relays!) and RTE FM was astonishing - the sibilants on RTE were particularly noticeable (especially when Paisley was speaking!) and the dynamic range on BBC concerts was out of this world.

For RDS I get the impression they stuck in the equipment and never bothered to read the manual or tweak it afterwards.

Interesting point about the TA - yes I can believe that - very few of us actually bother to read the details on the capabilities of our radios - now when hiring a car in Germany I noticed every aspect of RDS worked!

Switching with AF - well it's never worked for me and I think I have it turned on (! ok I'll go check....) - it would be particularly useful down here along the south coast as its almost impossible to get continuous RTE Radio reception while driving more than 10 miles.

Anyway - straying off the thread I suppose.

2RN can easy put in extra country code info regarfing UK time aswell as Irish time zone
If UK Freeview can use two country codes why not Saorview?
this is taken from 2RN multiplex TS

    TOT Descriptors: 0x0014

    Descriptor: Local Time Offset Descriptor
Country Code IRL Region Not used
Local Time Offset Polarity: 0 Local Time Offset 00:00
Time of change: 30/03/2014 01:00:00 Next Time Offset: 01:00

and this is from UK Freeview multiplex

    TOT Descriptors: 0x0014

    Descriptor: Local Time Offset Descriptor
Country Code GBR Region Not used
Local Time Offset Polarity: 0 Local Time Offset 00:00
Time of change: 30/03/2014 01:00:00 Next Time Offset: 01:00
Country Code IRL Region Not used
Local Time Offset Polarity: 0 Local Time Offset 00:00
