    Hey,

This might have been asked before, I bought a Chinese android phone off a website, (2 of my friends got it off the website before me so I knew it was fairly reliable) I bought it on the 17 of September so it has been six weeks but it hasn't arrived yet, my friend got it after 4 weeks, I'm in contact with the website and they are asking the postal service on their side, I'm still in the time frame to open a dispute so I'm not too worried but just wondering if I got in touch with customs in Ireland (I'm not sure if its customs I need to contact or an post?) would they be able to know if it is being held up or would they have already contacted me?

    Thanks

Probably depends on type of postage used - China-Airpost , Hong Kong post etc .

There should be tracking number available on website ,will tell you when it was shipped .

You could enter tracking number here for update .

    http://www.17track.net/index_en.shtml

Items normally arrive within a maximum of 25-30 days , in my experience .

So date of shipping rather than date of purchase is crucial.

You should have buyer protection , and normally have to confirm item received on purchase website .
Keep an eye out for expiry date to do this .

I got an update off paypal saying it was sent on the 23 of September and a tracking number but the tracking number did not seem to work "The following Item(s) is/are not found" is all that i get when i check it, for a while i didnt think much of it ive got stuff before when the tracking number was not right, which is why im in contact with the website now, it will be 45 days Friday since i bought it so i will probably open the dispute wednesday, im just curious if customs/an post are holding on to it to get the import duty or would they have already contacted me?

Apologies about bumping the thread but i am probably going to open a dispute with the site I got the phone off tomorrow, just wondering if i got in contact with Irish customs (again I'm not sure if that is the right people to get in contact with) would they have it held or is it a case of if they had it they would have already contacted me (its just over 5 weeks since it said it was sent out), at this stage i'm not too bothered about paying VAT/import duties

    thanks

I would open a dispute , anyway. You can always change it if/when it arrives.

yeah seems the best option, atleast it will put a bit of pressure on the website i bought it off of to look into it more

The tracking number should track package for you

Problem is the tracking number doesn't seem to be right, it just keeps saying something like item not found, this is what im discussing with the website I bought the phone off of, as I said when it didn't work I didn't think much of it as I've had tracking numbers that have not been right before and the item still arrived

    orientdeal.com

2 of my friends bought the same phone from it so that's why i knew it was fairly reliable, and it was sent by reg post mail (12-20 days) one of the two did it this way and got it 4 weeks to the day he bought it but so far ive got nothing but in a dispute at the moment

    How can customs help?

Do you know how many parcels and packages get into the country every day? - TENS of Thousands.

The customs won't have one iota of a clue about your parcel when you have no tracking number.

The chances are the item is rubbish and is only worth what you paid for it - if it in any way looks like or has features of a branded phone on the market, it can be seized and destroyed. If it does get to you, don't forget you will probably have to pay vat, duty and customs service fee when it is delivered.

actually 2 of my friends got the phone and its very good, which is why i decided to get it, it wont be destroyed as the is no brand name and it has some changes so it is not an exact copy (Samsung, apple etc only logo on the phone is the company name "orient") my friend just had to pay vat on his when customs got it,

at this stage i know im not going to get it and im in the middle of a paypal dispute with them now to get the money back

got a message of the company through the resolution centre of paypal saying

"After checking with postal company, the parcel (tracking number) is shipped out already. As the postal person forget to update online, there is no tracking information.

But the post confirm to us that the parcel is shipped already.

If you do not receive it in the following 30 days, we can make a claim for you.

Please kindly wait for it. We will follow for you

to be honest its been six weeks since it said it was shipped out, ive only 14/13 days left before the dispute ends and i either up it to a claim or drop it and hope they refund it,

my feeling is to make a claim as i believe i would have got it at this stage but wondering if paypal will favour my side?

I placed an order with a Chinese site, after 39 days it has finally shown up on An Post but says item sent to customs. It has a value of €35. Will I be liable to pay customs and has anyone any idea how much it will be ?

    Thanks in advance

No valid tracking number = no evidence of sending. They will 100% side with you, I'd open a claim.

is the €35 a true value or something the shipper put on the product. Customs are 100% aware of nearly everything shipped from China having a false value so they will either ask you to provide proof of payment or they will check the local value of the product and apply charges based on that.
