The focus (2000) has started to slightly pull back on me as i'm driving it.. Especially when I put it in 3rd gear and go up the revs. It's feels like i'm about to run out of petrol..

So far i'v changed the spark plugs but that didnt do anything. I'v also noticed the car revving up and down like mad when on idle. wether that's connected or not I don't know??

Maybe sensor but my guess is a hose leaking. Have you spoken to a mech yet?

Coil packs are really common problem too.

Have had my 01 focus about 6 years or more now and have needed 2 coil packs changed.

You've got it on your first post I think mate.. When the car is running you can hear a very loud air noise.. Similar to the noise you'd hear from an air line in a petrol garage..

I must look to see where it's coming fromm.. It's very, very loud..

Check and clean MAF, throttlebody and Idle Control Valve.
Probably not the culprit here but could use a clean and ruling out.

I presume i'd fail the nct on an air leak? I'v it booked in for friday afternoon.... Would they tell me where the air is coming from?

    You'll fail NCT on emissions.

    Get it looked at asap.

save you paying for a retest.

what county is car in? someone here might help you to get sorted

Lads one thing I forgot to mention was that the cat was rattling and I needed to get a new one.. Got a new one welded on today and the revving seems to have stopped. I can still hear the air leak but the engine is running a lot better

Could it have been the cat?

Is it possible that the cat is gone due to overfueling because of the leak in the air intake?

No, the exhaust mounts broke, I didnt bother changing them and I eventually hit a big ramp which ruined the cat and front flexi pipe :o:o

Replace the breather hoses under the inlet manifold, they always perish and split, Ford sells them with the T-piece for about €20

No, they're behind the inlet manifold

These are the hoses you need

I'll have a look during the week. The car started revving again and keep losing power as I drive it  Driving me mad...

Boring sunday so I decided to look at it today.

There was a huge hole in the bottom hose so I picked up a spare piece of hose from the shed and there is no more air leak :D

I brought the car for a good drive and it's still pulling back violently though:rolleyes:..

Got it all sorted lads. Aswell as the breather pipe it also needed a new spark plug lead. Found out that one of the leads were very badly corroded. Car is like new to drive now :D:D

Any sign of rusty water in the sparkplug hole? That would indicate leaky washer jet tubing which is a common fault.
