I`m starting my first class of an 8 week Yoga course on Wednesday. I bought a mat, can anyone recommend what clothes to buy? What clothes are best, and where I can get them?

Are you male or female? You can easily wear just leggings/tank top or a t-shirt /shorts first, to try what suits you best. You need to able to move your limbs freely and make sure that the garments won't fall down when you bend forward.
There are specialised yoga clothes to buy (often sold in studios) but they are not a requirement by any means, and it will take you a while to figure out what feels best for you.

If you have tracksuit pants that are stretchy and not too flared (if long), and a top you're comfy in that's all you need. Once the clothes are comfy that's the main thing.

I wear the capri yoga pants from Pennys (€9) as I find I trip over long pants :o TK Maxx is great too. M&S have plain cotton navy or black leggings for €13, I got a pair for my yoga.

Decathlon yoga pants (about £10 here for the cheapest ones) and M&S vest tops (a bit longer than most on the market before this year  ) generally for me. I'll grab a few bits too when places like SweatyBetty have their sales on.

Yup! I second this - stretchy comfortable clothes are the best way to go and there's no need to spend loads on specialist yoga clothes - Pennys, Forever 21, H&M and Zara can all sort you out pretty easily for what you need.
It's good to think in terms of layers - i.e. a tee-shirt or sports vest top with a light zippy hoody, cardigan or sweater so you can remove a layer if you get hot half way. Don't wear anything too baggy because it's annoying when you're upside down and it all falls over your head - also - as a teacher I find its important for me to be able to see my students alignment - so I'll need to at least see the outline of their body so I can keep an eye on how their shoulders are sitting, how they're breathing, where they're holding tension….It doesn't mean you have to wear skin-tight clothes but clothes that hug the body are best.
In terms of bottoms - those capri style leggings are great - again as a teacher I always want to be able to check that my students knees are safely aligned (especially with beginners sometimes it will feel easier to let the knee roll inwards or outwards but over time this will wear on the ligaments and damage the knee joint) so leggings or capri style pants are great. You can wear track suit bottoms too, or even those leggings that they have for cycling…
fluffy socks are also fantastic because although you'll likely be working in your bare feet for the class they feel like such a treat to put on for the final relaxation :)
and a further clothing tip!! always do get your socks and sweater and layers back on for the final relaxation - you'll be warm when you finish practicing but the body cools down surprisingly fast and its great to keep that warmth you've generated inside you :)
Enjoy your new course and let us know how you get on :)
