I bought a 1000mW High Power 802.11b/g/n USB Wireless Network Dongle with 7dBi Antenna from Dealextreme a few months back after I moved into a new house as my bedroom and USB WiFi dongle was too far away to get a decent signal from my UPC rooter. It more than doubled my speeds to about 18 Mbps with about 22-32 ping. It took about a month for delivery.

    Would you consider homeplugs?

You can buy them in Argos too, make sure they work and bring them back within 30 days if they don't (or if you want to get cheaper ones on Amazon).

Are you in Dublin? If so I can route out my old wifi card and you're more than welcome to it. If not I'd recommend getting a set of these.

Waterford, in Dublin city today only, so won't be around for a while more. What do those things do? Just plug an Ethernet cable into one of em or what?

Plug one powerline into the wall beside the router/modem and plug an ethernet cable from the router/modem into the powerline. Plug the other powerline into the wall beside your computer. Take an ethernet cable plug one end into the powerline and one into the pc.

I'm on 8 meg down. With the powerline adapters I get an average of about 6.8 meg down. On wifi in my room I was getting around 1.5 -2 meg down. Huge improvement.

On WiFi in my room I get 200kb down! Ha,the joys of country life!
In relation to the plugs, will the WiFi be available to the rest of my house or will it be for me alone?

Heading home on 5 o'clock train so it doesn't suit, cheers for the offer though. If the plugs would improve my quality whilst providing WiFi to the rest of my house ill get em

No wifi will still be available for the rest of the house.

Does that mean I'll be the only one with internet access, or no, everyone will still be able to use WiFi while I'm connected via Ethernet.

Everyone will be able to use wifi in the house and you'll have a better internet connection than if you were using wifi most likely.
