Will I need to do theses prior to the driving test or after?

Then for the Artic what is need CPC wise?

Obtaining CPC qualification consists of 2 theory test and 1 practical test (which must be done in the vehicle).

You can do CPC theory tests before your truck driving test.
Then you can do practical CPC test together with your driving test - as this is the most convenient option.

Once you have it, you dont' need to do anything more in relation to CPC for artic.

But you will need to keep doing 1 CPC module every year to maintain your qualification.

Ah OK that makes better sense, I though id need to do all the CPC before I could legally drive a Rigid on the road.

    Thanks for that.

HGV license is really starting to cost a small fortune.

Thanks. Info on the c/c1 licenses and the application process is not easy to find in a clear format online.

So what I surmized so far, I need to do two theory tests and one driving test?
Is there a company that give the lessons and supply the truck?

RSA site was never easy to navigate

Most companies that give lessons are doing the CPC and will also supply the truck for a fee of course. So when you go for your test on the day you should know all you need to know to pass.

I know people who have all the CPC's and can barley maneuver a moped yet I also know friends who do not have the CPC and are great HGV driver's!!

    Grand.
I think (given the trucks I am trying to import) that I will be well over the 3.5 ton limit so will need a C license.

Il have to look around for some driving instructors so

Dublin 12 currently, but I work in blanch and spend time in kildare too, so anywhere in that triangle really is a possibility.

I was considering going to the driving instructor down by the test center in Finglas, that's where I did my driving test for the B license

I'll be using Hynes down in Mullingar as they seem to be pretty good from what I've seen and heard.

Ill be going up to Artic asap as I have been asked to cover a few drops for a friend of a friend.

Hmm, I want a C license but I wouldnt be travelling to Mullingar!
Think Ill stick with the crowd in finglas. I see the "l" trucks coming out of there so they do lessons and supply vehicles.

I did rigid licence last year. Cost me just over 800.
Theory test for trucks - 40.
    Driving permit - 15.
    2 CPC theory tests - 140.
    6 hours lessons - 320.
Driving test and CPC practical test - 150
Renting Truck for test from driving school - 150

    Total: 815.

But now it will be bit more expensive, even as issuing driving permit and driving licence cost extra.

You need one theory test and one driving test for your C licence.
And you need two theory tests and one practical test for your CPC.

In total it's 3 theory tests and 2 practical tests.

Do I have to do the CPC if I am not driving for a living, only driving private vehicle?

That's what i was thinking. I think the CPC is only required if your are employed as a HGV driver.

    No you don't.
If you are not going to be working as a driver, then you can skip CPC part (two theory test and one practical test).

Excellent, that was the part I was unsure about. There are loads of places on the RSA site that say you need this CPC test done before you can do another test.

I guess I will just go to the driving instructor place and see.

    drivers licence fee 35 E
digital taco card 60E or 45 online
driving test and cpc practical are 152
    = 516 E
    lessons where i live are 120 for 2 hours i had 5 lessons 600 E
and it costs 200 E to rent the truck for test and cpc where i live
and thats if all goes well and you pass eveything first time :D

    Indeed.
learner permit and licence fees rose greatly this year.
Digital tacho card, while surely handy to have it, is not required for the test.

Not only did the price rise but also the license will only be valid for 5 years for group 2 vehicle ( truck, bus )

Plus another thing to keep in mind is the eyesight test for group 2 is also different and a lot of the opticians can't do it. I found out the hard way..

seems to make it look like a CPC is needed.

I guess I will need to apply for the theory test first anyway

Ring the RSA and they'll put you right. I rang myself the other day about this very issue as I was confused. Their response was that if I wasn't driving "professionally" I didn't need one.

Now to be clear, I've had my truck licenses for 10years and I'm renewing my license. It may be different if your doing your test now. However I couldn't see you having to do any more than one or two modules.

    Yeap that's confusing.
But you don't need to do CPC if you don't want to.
Just theory test and driving test. That's all you need to get C licence.

Went to book my C test buy it says Please note you must have passed all CPC theory tests before you will be allowed schedule for your CPC Driving Test and Practical.

I thought you could do the CPC separate?

Because you can. For driving test you don't need CPC theory tests.
For CPC practical test - you do.
But if you want C licence without CPC, you don't need to do CPC practical test.
