hopin someone can help me with what I could do to upgrade this box. Im not much of a builder / gamer but id like to run this box a bit faster with more cooling. Primary OS - Linux. Would like to have 3 x drives running Win/Linux/Other OS ;) potentially raid0 for that unnamed os ;) Heres what I have - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz 16GB RAM 1 x 120GB SSD - OCZ Agility 1 x 120GB HDD - (bought when price of 1tb drives had shot up) Motherboard - P8Z68-V LX Onboard graphics. crappy case - cable management awful cheapest 500w powersupply dont have any additional cooling other than stock sometimes i run alot of virtualbox / vmware machines so I would like to make things more interesting No a gamer, although I may occassionally fire up something - I'm not concerned so much Whats my best upgrade path here in the region of 500 - 700Euro or so? I find the pc running very hot I also thing its probably not a bad iea to get a decent psu any idea?

OCZ Agility 1 x 120GB HDD - (bought when price of 1tb drives had shot up) Motherboard - P8Z68-V LX Onboard graphics.
    crappy case
    cheapest 500w powersupply

    Obvious quick fixes:

    1) replace the case. (I would budget at least €100)

    2) replace the psu. (this doesn't have to break the bank, plenty of good 500W for around €50)

    3) new cpu cooler and throw in some case fans while we are at it...

Now that hard part: The cpu and motherboard you have are decent. The Intel 2500K overclocked is pretty much on par with the new Intel 3570K and the 4670K. Not much point upgrading to one of these...

How are you finding the performance of the 2500K with the number of VMs you are running?

    Options:

    1) you could track down a 2nd hand 2600K and pop that it. Same number of cores but with Hyper Threading which should help a little in vmware.

    2) Pick up a cheap AMD 6 core or 8 core (and throw a large number of cores at your VMs) and flog your CPU and motherboard to try offset some of the cost.

    3) Look at Intel socket 2011, however this is well outside your budget. €500+ for a intel 6 core Intel Core i7 Extreme 4930K alone not to mention the motherboard costs... (and AMD will throw you a lot more cores cheaper)

A cheap AMD 8 core will prob suit your needs best for a VMware beast of burden.:D

    Cool, thanks.

I'm looking at the following case -

    Any feedback?
    Any suggestions on CPU cooling?
