Tito knew how to keep those Serbs under control

Tito know how to keep serbs croatian macedonians slovians montenegrins bosnians, albanians catholics, orthodox, muslims under control. And you think what happens in N ireland is bad!!

Tito was croatian but he considered himself yugoslavian and quelled a student uprising in croatia during the early 70,s. by jailing thousands, while others had to move away and some disappeared.
Problem occurred when he let serbians develop the positions of power in the other countries. Kind of like the unionists holding power in local governments in the north in times gone by.

Heads of military were serb, and people from other countries were not allowed be captains or generals and if they were, a very big eye was kept on them.
Same goes for every government civil service job...

If you were from the other countries you had to do military service in another country under the command of a serb of course.

Too much of the tax take was being given back to belgrade and not enough lines of credit being given back to the countries sending the monies in.
    So resentment set in.

I believe had they kept their cool during the 80's when tito died and developed a system where each country had more power and was more fairly run, pay the differences with the international banks (Yugo was bankrupt in name) there still would be a Yugoslavia today.
The rabble rouser nationalists were looked down on at first in all countries as people were happy under the system.

Its only as the 80,s went on that the nationalists began their rabbling. Serbians wanted a greater serbia, croatians wanted independence, slovenians wanted fairness, bosnians wanted to be just liked by both. Montenegro is just serbia with a coastline, (now basically controlled by russia) macedonia just wants to be known as the birthplace of Alexander and the albanians wanted kosovo.

The two rabble rousers to come to the fore were two war mongering pricks by the name of Tudjman and Milosovic who decided when they had enough of beating each other that they would gang up on bosnia and carve it up for themselves.

Both had revenge on their minds as during ww2 chetniks (serb) and ustasha croats kicked 10 shades of ****e out of each other. allegedly 700k serbs, jews and roma sent to concentration camps by croats and they were so efficient at disposing these bodies that the germans told them to calm it down a bit(allegedly).
Oh this was on retaliation for the serb massacre during ww1 which was in retaliation for sometime or other in the 1870s, which was in retaliation for something else yada yada yada blah blah bla.

Well bosnia is another whole can of worms as there is 3 groups to contend with there.
bosnian serbs, herzegovinans aka croats and bosians aka muslims... all fighting with each other or two against one. With one changing sides half way through.

    FAst forward a few years.

kosovo gains independence, republic of serbia which is in Bosnia looking for independence croats in bosnia looking to be reunited with croatia and old muslim mujadeen fighters imported during the 90s still there setting up madrass schools and brain washing the kids.
Serbia looking to get back Kosovo cos they view it as the birthplace of their nation.

Kosovo not knowing what to do with its name as the biggest criminal loving country this side of criminalsville . Croatians looking to get one over on Serbia since they are in the EU.
Slovenia wishing it had a bit of a bigger coast line.... and not one of them giving a phuk about Macedonia.
All it wants is to be known as the birthplace of Alexander but the only ones giving them any attention is the greeks cos they dont like the fact that alexander was born in Macedonia, cos it interfers with their tourism trade.

And as for montenegro, its still serbia with russian landlords instead. Next few years Putin will have a naval base in the adriatic. WHich is why he "encouraged" his oligarchs to buy up montenegro. (allegedly)

Ah puk this I'm finished writing this history lesson. I wouldnt mind its only for AH. Its not as if anyone gives a ****.

TLDR; Balkans is a complete basket case of a place waiting to kick off again sometime in the future, just like they've done in the past.

Fall of Yugoslavia by Misha Glenny is a good book to read for an insight on the former Yugoslavia.

THE FORMER FIANNA Fáil TD Noel Davern has passed away suddenly at the age of 67.
The former MEP – from 1979 to 1984 – and TD for Tipperary South had retired before the 2007 general election. He served as Education Minister from 1991 to 1992.
Another former Fianna Fáil TD, Denis Foley, also died this weekend.
He was a former chairman of the Public Accounts Committee but resigned from Fianna Fáil in 2000 when it was revealed that he held an Ansbacher account.
He passed away at his home in Tralee yesterday. He had represented the Kerry North constituency.

Lots passing away this weekend, Is it because it's a long one ?

May they all go to there Gods with whom ever they believed in.

Strictly speaking yes, though more usually "only together will Serbs be safe".

There's a five part BBC doc series called 'The death of Yugoslavia'. It starts at the very first protest, in Kosovo if I remember right, and continues to the Dayton agreement. For anyone interested in the region, or world politics in general, it's an absolutely amazing watch. It's surreal that it all happened less than 20 years ago.
