Honda Civic Hatchback or VW Polo?

    Hi,

I am looking to buy a new car. I have looked at a Honda civic hatchback (2007) and I have spotted some vw polos (04, 06, 07) for sale.

I live in a town, so parking would be an issue. I am looking for something cheap to run, which I think both of these are.
I know that the rear spoiler is an issue in the Honda Civic.
    What are vw polos like?

Civics are same size as golfs, polos are roughly the same size as the jazz.

You get used to the rear visibility on the civic

While I can generally say everything in positives about civic, but visibility IMHO is a big issue there.
Front pillars are wide at the bottom limiting visibility.
Rear pillars are horrendously wide, making driver unable to see anything on 7 to 8 o'clock - making it nearly impossible to drive off the parking reversing from parking space.

Rear view is greatly obstructed by rear screen divided into two.
Only what compensates are great big nice side mirrors.

While I love civic, I must admit it's the car with worst visibility I've driven so far.

With Civic I'd probably avoid 1.4. Go for 1.8 as it's much better engine.

out of the two choices the Civic is the one to go for. It's in a different class to a Polo.

those polos of that generation appear to be ****heaps also.

If rear visibility is an issue in the Civic then you could always get parking sensors retrofitted, not that expensive these days.

    No indecision. Civic every time

    Honda every time.

Polo is a class and a bit below.

Civic all the way, it'd be weird to pick the Polo over it.

    Thanks for the replies all,

Bazz26 how much would it cost roughly to get parking sensors retrofitted?

No association with this company but they do give you an idea on prices:

Golf competes with civic not polo.
