Its probably a linkage or the centre spindle, are you any way handy with the spanners?

Himself would be but we're not at home so have no equipment. Could we get what we need handy enough?

Unlikely you'd get parts, , but it could just be a joint that needs clicking back on.

What car is it, which side is working and which side out of action?

Its a fiat stilo. Passenger side stopped but drivers side sounds awful too. Rang fastfit in clarehall and they're open today so might just pop out there and see if they can sort something. Meant to be driving down the country tomorrow so don't want to take any chances

They may be able to disconnect passenger side and keep drivers side working or something. Sadly I had the same issue with 2 of my fiats.

If its anything like my punto, pop the bonnet and have a look up by the windscreen.. you'll see some linkage that'll have come apart.. basically squeeze them back together.

Thanks all. Was indeed a problem with the linkage. Himself seems to have gotten it sorted (touch wood)

Same problem with a corsa. Was able to push the linkage back together a few times before it eventually gave up for good a week later. Made a bit of a mess of my hand and arm though trying to reach in to it.
