Steinhart-which one?

I need a watch due to a fashion brand letting me down (5 years isn't too bad though I guess).

I'd like a "proper" watch now though.

I know stowa and steinhart are well thought of round these parts.

From what I can see they're both fairly similar aesthetically, but steinhart less expensive, hence I'm leaning towards those.

I like the nav b-uhr range, but am not sure on movement types etc, nor on differences between individual models (other than size, although can someone fill me in on what the dimensions refer to exactly?)

What should I be looking out for?

Although the military diver looks very nice too

first one...although the clear back on the 2nd one allows the movement to be viewed, I prefer the more sterile dial of the first one

Both are 44m diameter...this refers to the external diamater of the round case, not inc the crown

The height refers to the thickness of the case plus the crystal...(2.2mm between the 2 you have chosen)

I have one of their divers (the ocean black 1 with ceramic bezel) - actually wearing it now. I have a 6.75" wrist and the 42mm fits it ideal. I think its probably the biggest I would go to.

QC from Steinhart would not be as good as Stowa and I found that out personally. However they did fix the issue immediately without quibble.

    Thanks lex,

So I'm guessing movement type doesn't matter all that much?

I've small enough wrists so was thinking of the more streamlined version, but dunno if it warrants the greater price, would the different movement account four the differential?

I have that ETA movement in 2 watches and its a reliable movement.
Dont have experience of the Soprod, but I think a lot of makers are planning on using it when the ETA movements dry up
It looks very nice from the pics

there are a lot more knowlegable guys on here that could give more info

    Thanks again.

Hmmm maybe i should just keep saving for a stowa, although they're not shipping until mid 2014.

Finish looks a bit nicer although maybe it's the interweb deceiving me!

well if its a flieger you are after then the stowa has more history to the original ones

look at Laco aswell, but I prefer Stowa

Archimede make some nice fliegers aswell

Archimede and Stowa are better quality and better customer service than Steinhart.
I own all three so I am fairly well informed on them.
Stowa are not doing themselves any favours at the minute with the long delivery times.
Check out the Archimede website. They are your best bet for a flieger IMHO.

Thanks john, great feedback considering you own all three to compare.

Although now because of boards, I'm looking at the quondam divers on the 'bay-look good for the price!

Might do the unthinkable and get a leather strap though...

Ok, ok, I know you must be sick of people breezing in here with silly questions but this forum has piqued my interest (second thread in two days!).

I think I want a pilot (see previous).

What do you all make of rotor? Same movement as the archimede (eta 2824), sapphire glass, and can get a stainless or Ti case for 349 with delivery.

    Can't be bad no?

Edit: did some more googling, apparently the same as aristo. Still though, fairly inexpensive

Most of them look like Aristo models with a different name ...so most likely pretty decent watches for the money

Mods, this didn't really warrant another thread, feel free to merge with the steinhart thread and I'll change the title

Very nice, although the 42mm is up there with stowa prices so out of my league!

I think I'm down to a choice between an archimede or the much cheaper rotor.

The archimide has a better casing apparently, but the rotor is about 100quid cheaper

I think it is worth the extra €100 alone not to have to live with the crowns on the Rotor!
For me the Archimede is aesthetically much nicer and I can vouch for their quality.
In fact they are so good that my wife has more or less decided she owns it now.
    Now that's praise!
PS I dont have shares in Archimede

Went with an archimede 42 auto.

Now to wait for it to arrive!

Ah the thrill of the chase over now the thrill of the wait.
    Excellent choice sir.
Can you post a link to your chosen one or will we have to wait for some unboxing photos!

did u go for the no logo,no date?

are archimede able to provide thier 1-2 week delivery time when most others are pushing out their del times due to shortage of supply of ETA movements

I wanted a date, so went with logo and date (despite it not being the trad version).

Only placed the order last night, wasn't aware of delays due to shortage of movements, fingers crossed i don't get an email tomorrow saying it'll be longer than expected
