Quick question. A couple of websites, including One Direct & Tesco, can't quote me online due to the information I supplied. There asking I call in.

Male, 26 years old, have a licence since 07, 6 years no claims bonus, own car, no claims, no penalty points, 1.4 VW Golf Petrol 2k value, 15k mileage, used for personal use only, sales representative, adding my mother as named driver who has over 10 years driving full license, no claims or penalty points. Third Party Fire & Theft. Based in Tramore, car parked in Tramore.

My renewal with 123.ie is just above €300. I'm shopping around to see if anyone else wants to give better, and most have quoted similar amounts with the exception of No Nonsense who gave a nonsense quote of nearly €700.

Is it worth calling the companies who can't quote online? I assume if I have to call in, the quotation is going to be fairly high. I seem to remember Tesco giving a good price last year, as did the AA, but 123.ie came in cheaper. They are giving me the renewal cheaper than last year.

All thoughts welcome. I gave up asking Chill to quote around for me, because their website asked an unbelievable amount of questions that no other insurance company was asking for. I just gave up halfway through as it seemed never ending and I was half expecting them to ask me for a sample of my blood the way the questionnaire was going.

call them and get a quote straight away, sometimes the online systems are ****.

After asking all the questions and getting no quote (very common it seems) they expect you to call out of frustration for wasting time, so they can sell you over the phone. Of course, this could all be a big fiction in my head.

How is it that I posted after you, but your time is later than mine ?:pac:
After going on a drive to clear my head, I noticed my analogue car clock was an hour ahead of my phone. The penny dropped.

Tesco and one direct done the same to me. I just never rang them. Couldn't have been bothered. Best quite I got was with Zurich/123/fbd. All around the 600 mark with 8 years no claims driving licence for 9 years and 28 on a 1.9cdti 150 Astra. The bastards.

Don't ring them they will ring you probably!

I found that calling a broker was the best option. My renewal last week was 100 cheaper than checking it on chill.ie

Most likely your occupation is causing the no quote. Other details seem ok

Is the car older than 10 years? might be another factor.

Yes it is usually a disclaimer that I am asked "are you a sales rep" it is in the "loading" category it seems

Another reason for the scumbag insurance companies to gouge you of money I guess!

Both OneDirect & Tesco quoted me online when I put in Computer Consultant (my other job). So it seems that Sales Reps are a no-go!

They assume that sales reps will be on the road more, hence the loading. If you work behind a desk doing sales it is better to put down sales admin

But they also ask what we use the car for - and I haven't stated that I use the car for work, I use it to drive to work. Have they never heard of work vans!

I know but it is one of those insurance mysteries tbh. I'm guessing that they figure that if you do drive in work (even if you don't use your own car for it) you are going to be driving more than average and hence, more likely to be a higher risk even when driving your own car.

They presume sales reps are rushing around the country trying to meet deadlines and covering huge mileage
