    Hi Guys,

Anyone have any idea what rates are used for mileage when driving an electric car?

The rates are all based on engine size: http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it51.html

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Did you get anywhere with this?
A call to revenue is probably the best option I would have thought?
It's a bit ridiculous that the rates are still linked to engine size while motor tax is on CO2.
IMHO it should be flat rate across all cars to encourage people to use the smallest / most economical vehicle possible.

Is it not the up to 1200 cc range?
    as 0cc is << 1200?

Tbh I'd be wary of claiming a cent on it without formal clarification from Revenue. They are clamping down big time on expenses of late, even on those that have been playing by the rules. The taxation institute are currently involved in extensive discussions with them over a number of issues around expenses.

Is mileage not for wear and tear on the car rather than fuel? I'd presume it's whatever it is for a standard car. One quick call would confirm it for you.

    +1 up to 1200cc.

I contacted revenue about this 2 weeks ago, it took them about 5 days to get back to me but they confirmed the lowest rate applies.

It's a shame that they didn't take the time to explicitly state the electric car rate on the website.
The changes since April 1st are hugely significant none the less, a total turnaround in the structure for drivers doing a lot of expensable driving.

I didn't know they changed the standard rates in April!

25% drop for us who do low mileage.

Considerable increase though for people who do big mileage.
