Not sure about crates really, garages are damp cold spaces... Ikea does a range of shelves called Expedit that are perfect for vinyl storage though.

Spindizzy in George's Street Arcade sells sleeves, they're good quality heavy card ones and cost about 50 cent a pop as far as I can recall.

How much vinyl are we talking here? 2 or 3 boxes or a whole bunch?

prob 5 altogether, I stopped buying records a few years ago and had to sell my turntables, left the records out in the garage and some of the sleeves got chewed and **** on by mice! worst was my unopened Aphex twin Drukqs LP box which I was saving for a special occasion, like owning my own home and having a nice music/chill out room or something..
dampness got a few covers that werent in plastic sleeves

anyway none of the actual vinyl got damaged but some of the covers need replacing and I did spend alot of money of them so want to keep them safe. at the moment they are in an insulated office space so not too bad. Ill call into spindizzy for the sleeves, I always forget about that place

Just wrap the vinyl in a plastic bag and seal with duct tape before you put them into any boxes.
