Peugeot 206 Bonnet Closes Loose

Someone smacked into my 2001 Peugeot 206 1.1lx (first car, only got it a few weeks) while it was parked overnight and drove off (dicks I know).

Not a huge amount of damage but now the bonnet does not close flush with the headlights/grill/emblem.

I've tried slamming it, closing it slowly while holding the catch open, leaning on it...etc...but can't get it down. Upon further inspection today I also noticed that the grill itself (see pic) is not attached properly so maybe that isn't helping.

Also the left fog light isn't sitting right in the bumper (also in pics).

Any help and/or guidance would be appreciated!

    Thanks.

First advice is don't drive it until you fix it, bonnets flying up, breaking the windscreen and denting the roof are not uncommon.

Thanks, this was my immediate thought but after inspecting the release mechanism and safety catch's I can confirm they are working, tried to reef it up and all I did was pull a muscle in my shoulder. This includes the catch at the front as well as the release lever.

I'm thinking that the bumper/grill have actually descended from where they should be a little. But I will keep driving to a minimum.

EDIT: I gave one last try in moving the grill so that if I had the caps for it I could secure it but I can't get it near the holes which makes me think the entire plastic front grill is the wrong size/model for this car, question is...could that cause the bumper to close incorrectly...

This is the grill in question: http://www.somora.ie/productsearch/PEUGEOT%2F206%2BSW%2F206%2F1.4%2F01~2006-07~2008%2FEstate%2F%3FVehicle%3D133981&Product=221307&PF=3596

Bring it to a mechanic, or rather bring a mechanic to it. Or if you want mess around with it yourself and try to fix it :D Probably something out of place somewhere, not alot more anyone here can do for you.

    Probably shunted.

Me and another user here both have been hit in the rear while parked.
Car would look ok but hatch didn't close.

A panel beater sorted my car out for a pint, took 2 mins with a lump hammer.

I know it's been a while since I posted but here's an update since I'm at a bit of a loss.

So I decided to try replacing the grille since it seemed to be damaged/fitting wrong. Upon removing the old one and the panel under it and the lights it became apparent that the problem isn't the bonnet at all but rather that the whole front bumper, including lights and where the grille mounts (around the Peugeot badge) is sitting about 3-5cm lower than it should be.

Which explains the gaps around the headlights and why the bonnet isn't flush with the bumper/front, or rather the front isn't flush with the bonnet.

A few other indicators seem to be pointing in the direction of a bad repair job at some stage and that it's not due to the bump it got (pity I didn't see this before).

So my question is this, how can I go about trying to fix/raise the front bumper/panels/headlights so that they are at the correct height? Can it even be done?

    Thanks!
