    I've used Multi Trip a few times, purchased insurance 5 hours before my flight to Canada when I was going as I completely forgot :P

    They would still cover you provided the event you are claiming for hasn't happened.
    For instance, you couldn't buy the insurance after falling ill and then claim for the illness causing cancellation.

    you can buy insurance up to the date that you're travelling, but cannot claim for anything that has happened to cause a claim between when you booked and when you purchased the cover.
    It won't cover things like cancellation or delay due to strike announcement after you purchased your ticket but before you got the insurance for example. (just an example as not sure strikes are covered even anyway, you should check that too, especially when travelling to France and Italy... they love their strikes there.)
