Budget: Approx €400. Buying online is not a problem.

Intended use: Browsing, streaming media like Netflix/SkyGo, downloading, light LibreOffice like small spreadsheets, word processing.

Mobility: Will generally be using on the couch, or at a desk. I want it to be 15.6 or larger as I want and need the number pad for when I'm using it for office work, I work with numbers.

    Warranty: Standard is ok.

What Operating System do you use? Windows 7 if possible

Other : I have a Samsung 830 240gb SSD to put into it, and 8gb RAM too, so internal HDD Size is not so important, and if I can save by having less RAM then that's good, because I can stick my 8gb into it fairly handy.

I suppose I'll also need a caddy for the HDD I remove.

I'm looking to buy in about 2-3 weeks

    Lenovo G500, Core i3-3110M, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD. £319/€363 @ Amazon UK.

Here's a tutorial how to replace HDD & RAM.

Thanks for that. Is Windows 8 downloadable for installation to the SSD? Or could I revert to Windows 7 for free?

also, what about a B&M shop?

You can clone the drive (there should be a migration tool with your Samsung SSD). Not sure if Windows 8 disk images are available as legal downloads (IIRC it's only the Windows 7 ISOs).

No free downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 (only with the Pro edition).

Can probably live with Windows 8 anyway, just ordered it, delivery between 12-20 Nov to Parcel Motel and it's costing about €375.

    Thanks.

Oh, I got the SSD without the clone software, so will investigate that one.
