Trouble using the scanner

    Hi,
I have a Uniden BC72XLT and when I am tuning to a frequency it also breaks in the frequency, for example if I was on the Dublin Airport frequency it would hear ''Shamrock 34....... flight level.....'' The ... are where the break is. It misses about 2 seconds and its not the antenna as I have got a new one and it does the same on both and even when I am really close to the source and it happens on any frequency, does anybody know if it is just the way the scanner is or is there a setting to be changed it in.

    Thanks

If you are very close to a radio source then you should use the attenuator.
If you are far away then turn off the attenuator.
You could also experiment with the squelch settings as they will cut out the noise if the signal is too low

Check that you dont have a Priority channel assigned.

Thanks, I tried them both, but still not working, I think it might just be the scanner!

Turn down the squelch the whole way till you hear the white noise all the time.
    Does it still happen?
Observe the display when it happens - does it change frequency when you hear the other station?
There are a lot of functions on it like priority as Mech1 said.
Try the manual also available Here
    Also some youtube videos Here

    Hi, thanks for the replies.
Yes, the squelch is all the way down and even when I am right next to the source it still does it. I have the frequencies programmed and listen to them with the HOLD feature, it happens on any type of frequency, I have taken off the priority feature. I still cant figure it out, it happens almost every 5 seconds and cuts out about 2 seconds of transmission

'Close Call' could be turned on also which would cut in.
I suggest a reset (note down any frequencies that you listen to first)

    Resetting the Scanner
If the scanner's display locks up or stops operating
properly, you might need to reset the scanner.
Caution: This procedure clears all the information
you have stored in the scanner. Before you reset the
scanner, try turning it off and on to see if it begins
working properly. Reset the scanner only when you
are sure it is not working properly.
    1. Turn off the scanner.
    2. While holding down 2, 9, and Hold, turn on the
scanner. It takes about 3 seconds to initialize
    and CLEAr appears

Hi, thanks for the help, I have resetted the scanner multiple times but it is still the same, the scanner has been like this from the day I bought it and first turned it on, could there be a feature I have to manually turn off?

Just resetted the scanner, entered in previous frequencies but I disabled the Priority and CloseCall function and seems to be OK now and there is no break in transmissions, thanks for all the help!

Good feature 'close call' but you have to take it slowly with those scanners, the amount of features can be a bit overwhelming at the start, at least that's what I found.
Nice to see it integrated into the scanner, I have a separate yoke for it which has to be linked by a cable so I don't have it connected up all the time.
    Good Luck

Yea, I always had Close Call on because didn't think it would affect the performance of the scanner, just have it turned off now and the scanner is working perfect and thanks again for the help.
