Rainwater drain-sand support

I'm putting down a rainwater drain across the gate opening to my house and I'm thinking that a bed of well ramped down sand would be OK as a bed for the drain instead of concrete. The concrete would only be an inch or two thick so hard to see how it would be much better than the sand. Am I right or just looking for the lazy way out.

    Thanks in advance

If you intend to drive over it I wouldn't think sand would hold it in place well enough. In any case, I would guess that it will gradually rise above the surface as the sand settles beneath it. Personally, I would concrete it in and have done with it.

Thanks, that's what I did. This is a job I only want to do once.
