I bought one of these in pc world. What a piece of ****, for a home cloud nat with **** all installation guidance.
For something that's practically plug'n'plug for home use, its crap
IMO do not go near it, I'm surprised it hasn't been recalled.

    Just got the 3Tb version.

    Up and running in 15mins.

Download for PCs and Apps for iPad and iPhone work fine. 4yr old Smart tv found it straight away.

    A few things though:

    - you cannot load data via USB or HDMI. It is by Ethernet only and if the router/wifi is not Gigabite speed ( as per WD cloud) this is slow, too slow for 3 Tb of data to go onto it.
    - when setting up for external connection, it creates a folder for each user. I started to load my data here but the media player only sees the public folders.
    - thought a simple transfer to the public folders would be as easy as Windows but this is as slow as the original upload, very surprised with this
    - also, the App doesn't read the . Avi format, likes mp4. I use FileExplorer to get over this, it's better all round than the app.

I am returning the 4Tb version of this product as its not fit for purpose. see my WDC and supplier correspondence.
I think i read somewhere that this product runs debian linux, so its essentially a web server. Nice idea in theory, but in practice,
there are so many potential DHCP/firewall/NAT / browser / Java and debian linux os config issues that its too difficult to do a plug and prey version.
A lot / most of the problems are not actually the fault of the WDC product. But its easier to get a straight up configurable linux box up and running on the internet, than it is , this mycloud device.

If you spent more than a day trying to config this device, then that doubles its cost to you. I'll Bear that in mind, the next time looking for backup storage. I'll also read the product reviews before buying from now on!!. This product was positively slated by most users. Only official reviewers (in the pay of WDC) gave it a positive review.

    Hi Folks,
that is simply not true that WDC do not know about issues with their range. I will provide proof that it is not true:

2 review websites that show just how much problems people are having with this product range.
a screengrab form their own website support showing how much problems people are having with their website

    See the reviews.

I raised case on their website, and have already been in touch with their support, please see email chain at bottom of this email

See screengrab of their support website. It is overloaded with users having tremendous problems trying to get this product to work. And that is just the last few days.

Overall Ive spend 2 full workdays in the office and at home trying to get this to work reliably with my operating systems (and I am an IT professional),
and no longer have any more time to waste on the faulty product.
Please supply refund. Its not it for purpose.

    thank you

    Hi Martin,
    thanks for your reply.
I tried everything with this product proiro tour email, though I did not reset it. When i plugged
it into a home cisco switch / broadband router, it seemed to install and i had access to the front end and could create shares and users.
However this was after reducing java security for chrome security. This is unacceptable to me.

After changing java security ,it took ages to map drives and then continuously crashed windows explorer on win7/x64.
I could not get it to work reliably. Upgraded firmware etc. no difference. This was the simplest possible network
implementation for the product and it was unstable. I am looking to return this product presently as I dont beleive it is fit for purpose.

    Best regards

    C

    Dear Mr. ,

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support. My name is Martin.

I am sorry to hear that you experience inconveniences with our product. I will gladly assist you.

Have you tried resetting the device by pressing the reset button at the back for 4 seconds until the front LED light starts blinking?

If you still can't access it, can you try connecting it directly to your computer using ethernet cable? This will show, if there is some problem with settings of your network or if the device itself is faulty.

You can also try accessing the Dashboard manually by typing http://wdmycloud in your browser.

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further.

    Sincerely,
