I have a gp visiting card and was wondering if a GP want to refer me to an opthomologist will I be covered under the GP visiting card??

A referral into the public system is free whether you have a medical card or not.

Sorry OP we cannot give medical advice here even relating to what is/not covered by a medical card. You might try the State Benefits forum - but before posting there please check their charter as they may also disallow these types of questions.
